Kidz Bop, the long-running compilation series with a special knack for coaxing stage-children into singing inappropriate lyrics is usually at least creepy if not the worst. Occasionally it births priceless moments in indie rock LOLs, though, which brings us to Vol. 17, which has the children lining up to cheerily chant Lady Gaga (“Bad Romance”), Death Cab (“Meet Me On The Equinox”), Owl City, and Kings Of Leon (coke spoon not included). We are hoping for some video treatments, if only for another , or something approximating their past treatment for Sean Kingston’s “Fire Burning.” Until then, there’s Miley Cyrus’s cousin. Woof.

  1. They would start turning head’s when they start covering Nine inch nail songs and Radiohead songs. They already covered “Float on” by Modest Mouse…I will never hear that song the same again

  2. I knew this generation was doomed when I saw a YouTube video of children dancing to the “Superman That Ho” song. I mean, the worst thing I was exposed to as a child was Bowie’s tights bulge in Labyrinth, and I to be honest I turned out a little unsavory like many born in the 80′s.

  3. I feel like an old fart, i only recognized like three of these songs. Young children are more in tune with this stuff more than me now, god damn

  4. I have no doubts whatsoever that if those kids put their collective minds to it, they could write better lyrics than Owl City, Death Cab, and especially Kings of Leon. I don’t think most children could come up with something as childishly awful as “getting hugs from lightning bugs.” (And those are just the Elmyr de Hory lyrics to Gibbard’s treacle sludge–i.e. a nigh-indistinguishable fascimile.)

The Kidz Bop version of ‘Fireflies” is actually a lot better than Owl City’s. Not kidding.
