Its members have been busy together and (sort of) apart, but the Joy Divison cover band is finally ready to present the long-awaited update to 2005′s self-titled third studio collection. So far it’s untitled, but we do know that, as previously conjectured, it was co-produced by the band and Tortoise’s John McEntire at his Chicago-based Soma Studios. Original recording took place at Giant Studio and The Schvitz Studio in Toronto. The current official lineup is Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman, Sam Goldberg, and Lisa Lobsinger. That said, there are also many guests you may recognize, including BSS alumni and etc.
Via press release:
The album features guest turns by BSS alumni:
Leslie Feist
Amy Millan and Evan Cranley of Stars
Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw of Metric
Jason Collett
Ohad Benchetrit of Do Make Say Think and Years
John Crossingham
Marty Kinack
Leon Kingstone
Julie PennerThe record also includes contributions by John McEntire, The Sea and Cake’s Sam Prekop, Tortoise’s Doug McCombs, Pavement’s Spiral Stairs, Sebastian Grainger, Poi Dog Pondering’s Susan Bells, Helen Money’s Alison Chesley and The Weakerthans’ Jason Tait.
That’s a lot of people. But the core six-piece wrote the album, which we’re told resulted in “more cohesive, melody-driven compositions than previous BSS output.” It’s out 5/4 via Arts & Crafts. No word if “Forced To Love“‘s on it, but they’re doing a brief tour around the collection, so perhaps you’ll find out shortly:
