According to a blog post by LA Times writer Jia-Rui Cook, the guys recently held a “wrap party” after a three-week Los Angeles recording session. Said soiree reportedly took place 1/30 at Nigel Godrich’s place in the Hollywood Hills. Hollywood people attended. Yeah, the whole thing could be conjecture or a lie or whatever, but the band was in L.A. last month (and Yorke DJ’d the bar at the Roosevelt again, etc). That, and Thom Yorke???? (Feat. Godrich) will be in Indio for Coachella in two months. Cook’s two cents. The post also mentions Bryan Cook, so don’t get confused.
Via NME:
Bryan [Cook, engineer] helped transform a house in the Hollywood Hills into a recording studio and spent the last three weeks there recording Radiohead with Nigel Godrich. On Saturday, we waded through a driveway full of Priuses and Minis to get to the wrap party.
I was giddy seeing Beck, Salma Hayek and Danger Mouse chatting around the same pool where Dean Martin and the Rat Pack used to hang out. Thom Yorke periodically toyed with the iPhone that controlled the speakers. Usually he skipped forward to a Rolling Stones song.
… The band wanted to record in LA to get away from the dismal English winter. Nigel said they were probably lolling about too much in the sunshine when they first arrived. When it started pouring down, they realised someone up there was telling them to get on with it. If their last album was In Rainbows, I guess they could call this one In Rainstorms
The original post first appeared at Postmark Here, but has been removed. Maybe better evidence than Cook’s starry-eyed party-gossip is that the band recently set up a verified Twitter account. Yorke’s seemingly set up an account as well, but it hasn’t been verified as of yet.
In separate but related news, the “Proud Evolution (Thom Yorke 500qd Remix)” shows up on the Sisterworld – Reinterpretations disc with the Deluxe Edition of Liars’ excellent Sisterworld (3/9, Mute), while Flying Lotus’ Cosmogramma (5/4, Warp) will feature T. Homme on “…And the World Laughs With You.”

Cool if it’s true. Either way, the album won’t be out til late this year most likely.
actually we just finished the sessions. heading home now.
love
lol
is this real life?
If this is the real Thom Yorke, can you PLEASE give up some kind of heads up on when the album will be released? Is it being mixed now?
hmmm… I doubt the album is coming out anytime soon. My guess will be that it will be released at the end of the year or the beginning of 2011.
!!!!
As much as I love Radiohead, Thom Yorke sure has morphed into a cheeseball as of late, playing shows shirtless and DJing at the Roosevelt?!?! UGH
Definitely agree with this. I have a feeling that my opinion on the new album will depend on how much of an input Jonny Greenwood has.
I don’t think Thom’s DJing stuff is a big deal, but I’m 100% for Jonny having more input either way. His solo work is wonderful, imo.
He wasn’t shirtless. His shirt was popped open.
Also, he DJed before he was in Radiohead. It’s just something that he loves to do. Let the guy have some fun.
Oooops my shirt popped open to the bottom button!
Oooops I’m DJing the cheesiest bar in Los Angeles where celebs hang out!
OOOOPS! Just having fun!
I’m with you on the DJing thing. I think it’s just something he really likes to do, and it’s something he’s done since he was in college. And as for doing it at the Roosevelt, I’d read before that it was just convenient because Nigel has connections there, but either way I don’t think it’s such a big deal. (But hey, if you want to pick on Thom for doing something uncharacteristically awful, there’s always Twilight…)
And as for the “wrap party”… couldn’t it also just mean they were wrapping up their LA sessions? I read about this several days ago, and I still think it’s a bit too vague to get super-excited over. A little excited, sure, but not new-album-level excited.
Eh, well recording in L.A. will do that to you.
Salma Hayek was there?! Wow.. Radiohead is pretty cool, I guess.
Unless you are opening stereogum book on when. We can talk about when it will be out till the cows come home and maybe even miss the release with all the talking and second guessing. The album will be out when it is out.
Mehhh nothing to get excited about at the moment.
But yall. In Rainbows wrapped up in June. Was released in October. If this is true, I say it’s released May-July.
That was only because they released it online – skipping distribution, press, etc. If they go the traditional route this time it’ll take longer.
LA?…CAtch a wave THomey!!!
Radiohead MAY Have Wrapped Up A New Album
VERY dubious report. Usually they’ve tested songs out in live sets before releasing them to albums.
Probably a wrap party for a Beck’s Record Club session. That’s more believable.
Maybe Radiohead helped record an entire cover of Digital Underground’s Sex Packets along with Beck and Nigel!
So do I only have to wait 10 days to hear it?
Thom Yorke is a classy dude, he can DJ where he wants.
lol
Can’t WAIT! I swear, one of the greatest joys of my life is listening to a new, fresh RH album. You never know where they’ll go, but wherever they do, it always ends up great:)
I’m wondering why Radiohead has made L.A. their second home. During the OK Computer days, I read about the band in and out of L.A.. 13 years later again I’m reading about Radiohead and L.A.
The suspicious thing is the Twitter. Why would a band on hiatus, with no plans to release an album in the near future, set up an account? I think it’s happening at some point this year.
To clarify, not “in hiatus” but after saying they were not going to release “albums”. You know…
That one was a misquote, according to Ed. He said that they ARE making an album.
New LP in ’10 and new tour by ’11. Ahhh yes!
Thom Yorke can DJ at Miley Cyrus’s bday party in a crotchless jump suite if he wants. Because he is Thom Yorke.
ha, in case you needed this story to be more L.A., their new album was recorded at Drew Barrymore’s house.
More like “bl(LA)ahghghh ! ! !” Radiohead does not need a Drew Barrymore influence. Screw being Eco-friendly I hope they brought plastic cutlery.
While we talk about new albums, go to NPR.org and listen to Phantograms new album “Eyelid Movies”. Good addictive dance music
hasnt phantogrrams been out for awhile?
anyways i bet thom is gonna do something with flying lotus at coachella.
A lot of the songs on Eyelid Movies have been for about 6 months of so. Phantograms put them all into a full length and are releasing it next Tuesday. They caught a lot of people’s eyes with their tours with School of Seven Bells and their CMJ set last fall.
Three weeks seems like too short a period of time for Radiohead to track a full album. Assuming that they were tracking that is…
many albums are tracked in 3-4 days.
Drew Barrymore’s house, the Roosevelt….this sounds like the Kings of Leon.
great
Quite frankly, I hope Thom Yorke starts wearing buttless pants and high heels while he is DJing for celebrities and using his iPhone to turn up his speakers. And capes. He should wear lots of capes and big rings. Yes, please. And it wouldn’t hurt him to refer to himself in the third person from now on. Make it so, Thom.
I pray for the day when we have a Radiohead free week, month, then year. Down with Radiohead, please.
Drew Barrymore is about as cool as foot fungus…no offense, foot fungus.
i seriously hate how you guys phrase headlines here
“might have wrapped on a new album,” it just makes me cringe
you can always count on stereogum to report on something 2 days after it was published on the rest of the net..way to go
My birthday is two days away, so this is a nice b-day present. hoping for an EP
Radiohead recorded OK Computer at Jane Seymour’s house. Who cares if they are recording their next album at Drew Barrymore’s house?
Defiantly news worthy. No telling how Radiohead will choose release something if its finished, they like testing new ideas. 1 Track at a time online until the physical copy is out? all at once with no warning?
Nice. I hope it won’t cost $100.
If this report of Thom Yorke untucking/unbuttoning his shirt during a concert is true, I just may have to give Mr. Yorke a big emphatic double UGH.
Let’s hope this is true.

whats everyone got against LA? LA is awesome.

Nope.
1.) Might = slight possibility, may = permission
2.) Might = slight possibility, may = strong possibility
3.) Might = past tense, may = present and future tense
In any of those uses, Might is Right
((sorry, but if you’re going to be a dick about grammar, at least be right))
You never can be certain with Radiohead.
I don’t understand how people can like music relevant to Stereogum and not respect Radiohead. They’ve been an outstanding band musically and socially.
