London hosted the BRIT Awards last night, which offered some nice firsts: Lily Allen won her first award as Best British Female Solo Act and her first as a Snooki lookalike (fire the stylist), and Lady Gaga swept three international awards. International Male of the year? Jay-Z. A performance highlight came via two of the night’s winners, Dizzee Rascal and Florence & the Machine, performing a live mashup titled “You’ve Got The Dirtee Love,” because Flo’s “You’ve Got The Love” is built for this shit. Liam Gallagher also accepted an award for What’s The Story (Morning Glory)? for best BRIT album of the last 30 years. It was up against albums from the Verve, Coldplay, Travis, and Keane. And Phil Collins’ No Jacket Required. Robbed.

FLORENCE
That was just awesome. Major girl crush on Florence happening.
I love Gaga and I love Florence.
In fact, Florence’s performance was ON POINT. Amazing.
pre-recorded. Big time. Glad we don’t have much of Florence here
i saw that Lady Gaga showed off her Vajayjay

wait? why wasn’t Arctic Monkeys in that list? they would deserve that so much more than Coldplay…
uh? Meat is Murder? Kid A? Third?
Brits really love their britpop!
dull on all counts
Genuinely excellent performance from Lady Gaga in an otherwise worthless event which has a habit of celebrating the mundane (See NoahKnife’s comment above).
P.S Who is JAy Z? I don’t get american music where I live.
Putting Music aside, can someone please explain what the fucks is wrong with Lady Gaga.
And Oasis is great but Radiohead, Portishead, Blur, all there albums are classic
I think some of you are labouring under the delusion that the Brit Awards culd ever actually reward good music.
Exactly. They are just a bad as the Grammy’s and a total joke. Robbie Williams? Outstanding contribution to music? Ha.
that was in no way pre-recorded. get a clue. she may have had some backing tracks at points, but if you’ve ever seen florence perform she does it live.
I think what people are missing about Oasis winning for Morning Glory is that yeah, it’s probably not the best British album of the past 30 years. Hell, it’s not even the best Oasis album (that would be Definitely Maybe), but it’s impact on that whole generation in the 90s was immeasurable (In 2000, one in four households in Britain had a copy of this album) and it really served as the definitive statement of Britpop on a world level. Loveless or The Stone Roses might be better albums, but Morning Glory is a classic on its own.
That performance was amazing. Did you watch the Grammys this year? Or the year “professor” will.i.am rhymed “slammy” with “jammy”? How can you be bitter about a welll-executed Dizzee/Florence collaboration after that?
not bad
