Clap My Bricks Up
I knew it sounded familiar! I dragged Jed out to photograph the graffiti I'd seen in Brooklyn on Baltic street between 3rd and 4th avenue.
So now when the reviews and interviews talk about where Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! got their name, you'll know what (and where) they're talking about.

The same kinda happened with Gomez. They had a sign for a friend "Gomez" so he could find where they were playing. So the public naturally assumed this was the name of the band. :)
How could a band called "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!" fail - I think they are destined for great things just for the name. Good job they weren't a death metal band huh! ;)

Actually, The New Pornographers chose their name before the book came out.
"It all began in 1996, with a name. Zumpano had just released their excellent sophomore effort, Goin' Through Changes. Yet Carl, ever restless, had other plans. "I always wanted to be the new somethings", he says. "The New Pornographers had a good ring to it."
Even Carl's explanation of where the name came from was after the fact. "I didn't find out until recently that it actually had some kind of meaning," he admits. "[Televangelist] Jimmy Swaggart wrote a book called Music: The New Pornography. Holy shit, it fits so perfectly. Ever since, I tell people Jimmy Swaggart said music was the new pornography. The New Pornographers are merely musicians. It's completely innocent."
