New Holopaw - "Losing Light"

Holopaw's album Quit +/or Fight has been out for a month or so now, gathering love from the likes of Pitchfork. I only recently got my hands on it, though; I'm so lame! Anyway, it's really great... sort of like Belle and Sebastian meet... Iron and Wine? No... I'm hard pressed for the other half of that description. Listening to the album, the only thing that surprised me were the lyrics to the song "Found (Quit +/or Fight)," which are sort of bad compared to the other songs. But it turns out, and the song title is a dead giveaway, that it's based on found materials and done as a collaboration with Found Magazine. Here's not that song -- listen for when the drummer starts playing on the toms ... that's my favorite part.

Strange--you think she would've mentioned the Found connection in the review...

the last Holopaw album is fantastic, and i'm sure the new one is too.

i became familiar with their singer from his excellent work with Ugly Casanova, and he's now one of my favourite indie vocalists.

Well, that's what happens when writers do their research on AllMusic.
