$40 a ticket? -- I think I'll have skip it. I'm all Death Cabbed out anyway. (Anyone else notice "Soul Meets Body" on the latest The O.C. AND Laguna Beach? The sound you hear is Ben Gibbard's wallet exploding.) LCD and Truckers, though ... could be cool. Let's hear some reviews if any of you go.

And speaking of Spin, former staffer Sarah "Ultragrrrl" Lewitinn has her first book in stores today. It's called The Pocket DJ and it actually fits in your pocket! I wrote a playlist for it too, so check that shit out. Get it signed at Misshapes this Saturday (kidding).

We're giving away five copies of the book. E-mail contests @ stereogum.com with the subject line ULTRAGRRRL, and include your name and mailing address. The 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, and 10th e-mailers win. CONTEST IS OVER. YOU WILL BE E-MAILED IF YOU WON.

Death Cabbed out?? Whe the hell are you watching "the OC" and "Laguna Beach" anyway? HHmmmmm.... sounds like your quite the authoritative figure of pop culture and music! No. Ben Gibbard is definately making more money now, no doubt, and deservingly so. Death Cab rules, and their new CD rocks!

Okay, Peace out!

I love Death Cab. I was being facetious.

I like O.C. It's often clever. I don't really watch Laguna, but I hear it in the background when my fiancee watches.

In a recent issue, with the "retirement" bit from the gossip FoB, didn't they say something snide about Ultragrrrl? Like "it sounded like a good idea at a Strokes afterparty"?

I meant, "in Spin", in case "the gossip FoB" sounded ambiguous. they could have just been teasing.

Ultraggrrrl sucks so much it's not even funny. Why she's given a pass to do so much cool stuff is baffling ...

I second Frank's acute and accurate observation.

Any chance you'll post that playlist, Scott? You know, for those of us who are financially challenged.

Uh oh guys HTownHellRaiser is here and he means business! Lock up your daughters! He's raising hell to the fiery tunes of Gibbard! Instead of bashing your mailbox in with a baseball bat- he hugs the mailbox and lets it know how he feels and then they cry together.

I like Ultra, she seems nice. Just because you don't agree with her music choices doesn't mean you have to wish the devil to anal probe her.

Death Cab...ho hum. I'm just indifferent to their single. That's all

Also...
Why is there a fake Janine?

Bloc Party was also on both shows. I'm not sure which is sadder - Death Cab and Bloc Party selling out like crazy or me watching Laguna Beach.

I'll say both.

Yeah, this is EXACTLY what I need: to be told what to listen to by someone who's being told what to listen to by cultural light houses such as The OC, Spin and Urban Outfitters.

What am I missing here? Cause I've never seen this "Ultragrrrl" write or do anything even remotely interesting and/or original. She's like the Brooke Burke of the Indie world.

Feh.

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
