I used to take the same bus as the drummer from Warrant. This was ten years ago, in Canoga Park California.
Also, there is a crazy man who rides the bus in Salt Lake City who claims to be Ringo Starr. Google him, he has an arrest record.

As a VH1 employee, you must be aware that Gary Numan is a test pilot and Thomas Dolby invents high-end music hard/software. Also, last I heard, the guy from Operation Ivy who DID NOT end up in Rancid was working at Blondie's Pizza on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley.

Well the "lawyer's" deformation of character statement could arguably be attributed to a typo (although I doubt it).

What's more revealing of his legal credentials is his prediction that the FCC will shut this site down. Of course, since the FCC has no authority to regulate the Internet (they regulate broadcast media) I'm not sure how they'll "shut him down". I suppose he figures that the site will get hit with copyright infringement lawsuits, but until the FCC gets its hands on some copyrights, it has no standing and cannot otherwise "shut him down".

Also, there were two members of Operation Ivy that did not join Rancid: Dave Mello, the drummer, and Jesse Michaels, the lead singer. I have no idea what Dave has done since 1989 (maybe he's the pizza guy), but Jesse has been a graphic designer and occassionally has performed with a new band called the Last Wave Rockers. I saw them perform in DC probably about three years ago.

correction Topher- Jesse from Op Ivy's band was called Common Rider. their first album was called "Last Wave Rockers"
They called it quits sometime last year I think.

just looking out for you, I know you werent intentionally deforming his character.

Oh yeah, that's right. I wouldn't want to commit intentional deformation of character. That's like a class 3 federal offense.

I should correct myself by adding that the FCC does regulate the Internet somewhat in that it regulates the telecom companies that provide access to the Internet. It has not, however, been granted any authority to regulate the content of a website in the same way it can fine a broadcaster.

hey topher, if i was a hotshot lawyer such as yourself, i sure wouldn't be posting messages all over this site and leaving my name with it. not the most credible of places to hang out.

Not credible? Then are you saying that stereogum is incredible??? How sweet.

The one thing that topher didn't mention was that although the FCC wouldn't regulate a site or postings such as this one, a private person (i.e. the musician) could sue the people who posted the less-than-glam jobs. A libel claim could be filed, assuming the assertion of the wack job was untruthful. All they need to sue is to be able to prove the statement is:
1. Defamitory -- saying that someone's "pouring drinks" may or may not be defamatory -- giving awkward handjobs is (although they'd have a case that any reasonable person would get the joke)
2. False (who knows?)
3. A factual assertion (it is)
4. Identifies the plantiff (it does)
5. Published to a third party ('twas)
6. With fault (in this arena, you'd have to prove they maliciously posted the info -- that it was more than forgetting to doublecheck sources)
7. Causing damages (isn't it cool to re-like a band once they've hit rock bottom?)
