New Professor Murder - "Champion"

This one showed up in the non-gum inbox and I loved it right away- Professor Murder is like a mix of Refused (I get a "Trench"-era Liars vibe, too) and the best most obscure dub, the stuff you hear but can never find to buy.

Professor Murder - "Champion" (MP3 link expired)

It might not be for everyone, but it got BV's link of approval last month. The track's off of their forthcoming EP, Professor Murder Rides the Subway.

Who can't like a band whose logo was clearly done by a street name painter? Getting those guys to paint creepy messages for you is the hipster housewarming gift of the season...just imagine handing one off that says "Boner" or "Plenty O'Cancer"...

Update: Professor Murder writes in to say they're playing the Knitting Factory Tap Bar this Saturday (the 19th) at 11:00 PM, doors $8.

This is pretty tasty. If you're gonna ditch melody, this a good way to do it.

I was a big fan of the first Liars LP. I heard the second was 'difficult,' which for the liars, I admit, scared me off. Anybody hear it?

Professor Murder is from Mr. Show, the episode with the ventriloquist dummies, and also the fat kids vs. the monks.

Matt, I've got the second Liars album and it's true: it's difficult. I like some "difficult" stuff, but it errs on the side of being more atmospheric/quiet.

Actually, I got it because someone else gave it away.

Prof. Murder is in another classic Mr. Show skit, east coast ventruiloquists vs. west coast ventruiloquists. Also in this sequence is Kill Or Be Killed.

re: laser sounds...in NYC, at least, the reggae shows have all kinds of laser sounds/air horns/nonsense thrown on top by the DJs. it's kind of awesome, if you're up at 5am.
