Shitty News For Deadheads

Wondering what to get for the Deadhead in your life this Xmas? Try eBay starting 12/18. That's when Jerry Garcia's personal toilet goes on sale.

Master Bathroom Kohler Toilet
Located in Jerry's master bedroom suite on the second floor of 55 El Mirador Dr. in Nicasio, CA! Overlooking the pool with a view of Mt. Tam and Mt. Diablo! Salmon color! 25" deep x 19" wide x 16" high!

(Speaking of high, you'd have to be pretty baked to bid on it, no?)

Jerry lived in the house from 1992 until his death in 1995.

Above pic and info via the Sophia Foundation, the nonprofit group holding the auction (yes, the money does go to a good cause ... something about aiding children of divorce). The chairman of the foundation told AP, "There's a lot of Deadheads out there with money, and they want a piece of Jerry somehow." You can also bid on Jerry's dishwasher, freezer, and other household appliances.

Thing is, the Dead fanbase isn't too happy these days. Last week Grateful Dead Merchandising forced the Live Music Archive to pull its 3,000 downloadable Dead shows from the Web ... so they can be officially licensed and sold via sites like iTunes! The Dead encouraged fans to tape and share shows, so it comes as a shock to fans, thousands of whom are now protesting via online petition.

David Gans, host of the syndicated radio show "Grateful Dead Hour," discusses the news on his blog.

In the meantime, Stereogum recommends the band's legendary 5/8/77 show at Cornell University's Barton Hall. Stream the whole thing at nugs.net.

Would the commode go for even more if Jerry-Bear had shuffled off there?

Jesus, they must be hard up for cash if they're selling their dead singer's toilet. What's next, his bones?

Oh, and that Strokes link is bogus...I checked out the Rapidshare page, and it's only like 4K. Probably a virus.

Band To Watch: Threatmantics

Threatmantics are a scruffy Welsh rock trio that throw some wrinkles into the scruffy rock formula: Instead of a lead guitarist, they have a lead John Cale viola, and their drummer does double-time with a keyboard. The two guys mixing...
