What's eventually going to flatten and overhype all the great blogs are lists like these from such well respected magazines. Music media is basically trying to push everyone against Pitchfork which I totally get. I don't know anyone who truly loves Pitchfork, but I also don't know a single music fan that could live without it. Anyway, it's totally fucking cool that someone decided to place Stereogum at #7. Where the hell is GvB?

Who gives a shit what Entertainment Weekly says? I guess there's schadenfreude in Pitchfork being rated so low, but this reeks of some kind of inferiority complex by whomever put this list together. Sure, Pitchfork can be unbearably pretentious at times, but there's not a better resource for music on the web. Or there wasn't enough pop coverage on the site to justify a high ranking - but then, why is Stereogum so high? Pitchfork has a good relationship with just about every major indie act today - I learned a bit more about Sufjan Stevens from their actual interview with him than Stereogum's just slinking off behind him at some concert. Pitchfork, if not lovable, is certainly essential.
