Wayne Coyne's Advice To High School Graduates

Flaming Lips frontman delivers a useful and profound commencement address to his alma mater.

"I am not technically a high school graduate, even myself. I'm neither ashamed nor proud ... It is well documented that I worked at Long John Silver's and sold pot out of my apartment..."

I'm sorry, I realize that Jody Foster reciting/"rapping" the lyrics to "Lose Yourself" is wholly and completely embrassing all on its' own, but...why IN THE NAME OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, has no one brought up the fact that she sounds like Tina Yothers on a repeat of "Family Ties!!!"

AAAAAAAAllllllllessssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Wayne claims that he hasn't done drugs since the 80's. And yeah, I buy it. I think that'd be great. But still, he's my hero and I think he's a hell of a role model anyway.

If anyone busts on him for having difficulty reading the cue cards, you are a dick.

The music is from "My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion" from At War With the Mystics. I can't remember the full title, it's ridiculously long.

I graduated from Classen and helped pick Wayne Coyne for our speaker. The video was edited before graduation for content and the whole thing was NOT played. However, we all knew what was on the orginal. He was generous enough to visit us at our Senior Picnic.

Guys I think you are all missing the joke. I am sure some high ranking school district So-n-so asked Wayne to speak at graduation. Wayne being Wayne said OK and at the last moment sent a projection and sound crew instead of showing up. After the giant screen and speakers were set up and the thing looked professional and cool; that Administrator (or whoever) lets it go on. Imagine the scene: the lights go down and that video presentation begins to play. I’m laughing my ass off just thinking of it. I guess Mr Coyne has the same sense of humor. I’ll bet most teachers at that school still don’t get the joke!

Wayne that is f-ing classic.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
