Band To Watch: As Tall As Lions

Whenever my wife wears the As Tall As Lions t-shirt she totally stole from me, I wonder when I'll get to hear new music from the Massapequa indie rockers.

Listening to the boys' lush new album (and you should, now, at Absolute Punk), I can't believe they're from Long Island. All swirling guitars and dreamy harmonies, they have a serious Brit-rock/shoegaze sensibility reminiscent of Doves. Plus, Daniel Nigro can really sing. We expect big things.

ATAL were kind enough to let us exclusively premiere an MP3 from the album:

As Tall As Lions - "Ghost Of York" (MP3)

If you dig it -- and we hope you do -- load that stream and don't miss "Love Love Love (Love Love)," which has a soulful Jeff Buckley "Everybody Here Wants You" vibe.

Album's out 9/26 on Triple Crown. Lions hit the road with labelmates Dear Hunter & The Secret Handshake next week.

Let's give away two pairs of tickets to the Knitting Factory show, shall we? If you want to enter just place a comment saying you wanna go, and I'll pick 2 winners randomly by Saturday morning. (Use your real e-mail or I won't be able to contact you; don't worry, you're not signing up for anything.)

I did not expect to see this band on this blog. I love it. The album is one of my favorites this year. Everyone should check out their album Lafcadio while they are at it.

MP3 is all good; you were probably downloading while I was re-uploading. Give it another shot.

I am in the process of familiarizing myself with Mac apps and things are a little screwy this week. I'm getting better though!

Look ma, no mouse!

These guys are awesome...Kinda Coldplay, kinda Sunny Day Real Estate and a lot of Doves in there. A friend told me their live show is fantastic as well. Thanks for posting this Scott.

I'm conflicted. This band sounds pretty good, and 'Summer' in particular stood out, but it's hard for me to listen to any music endorsed by AbsolutePunk.

Seriously, 'Music Mends Broken Hearts'? AbsoluteEmo, maybe.

Hey, I'm from Queens and if I could rock out I'd be a Brit-popper. We on the island have got soul.

I'd love to go to the knitting factory show!
