Inside The Rockers Studio: Sebadoh

On Sebadoh III Lou Barlow and Eric Gaffney added Jason Lowenstein and created one of the most important underground rock records of the past twenty years. Noisey, folky, and just plain awesome, III became a touchstone of American indie rock. This week Domino released a deluxe reissue that includes a bonus disc of rarities.

Fifteen years later, it still rocks.

See, this is why I love Stereogum, for nice morning surprises like this.

If they were good enough for Superchunk, they're good enough for me:

"It's So Hard To Fall in Love"
"Brand New Love"

special mention: "Skull" and ten or twenty others.

eric gaffney once crashed a barbecue at my house, found his name in my rolling stone encyclopedia of rock 'n roll, proceeded to show everyone at the barbecue that his name was in the rolling stone encyclopedia of rock 'n roll, gave me a mini-stapler he found on the street, and then stole my liquor and left.

eric gaffney is in a band called fields of gaffney.

eric gaffney is douchebag.

Wow this brings me back at least 12 years.

I liked the way Truly Great Thing was sung on the album.

the movie Kids also used some tracks from III if I'm not mistaken...great fucking flick.

Wow, these cretins seem to have quite a puerile obsession with weed and women. I bet they're both impotent homophobes on top of being douche bags. "Can everybody shut up? I'm trying to give you some art." Ha!

think (let tomorrow bee)

the exact moment my train of sappy longing loathing jumped off the rails of the smiths to the indie rock underground.

"spoiled" I remember hearing this in the credits from the disturbing film "kids". It kind of sounds like a Death Cab for Cutie song. Maybe DCfC were influenced by them?

4-Song CD is very good, well nigh excellent!!

It's hard to pick a favorite off of III, there are so many good ones there. Yeah, maybe "Truly Great Thing."

But let's not forget "Ladybugs" (from "Freed Weed" - that shit was LOW-fi, but still oh so good!), "Ride the Darker Wave" or "Whitey Peach"!!

And their cover of Bryan Adam's "Run to You" bests the original by a country mile.
