New Aliens - "The Happy Song"

The Aliens consist of former Beta Band members John Maclean, Robin Jones, and Gordon Anderson. This single is the follow-up to their Alienoid Starmonica. It's no "Dry The Rain," but we'll take what we can get.

More fun at aliens1.

Hey I like that! Its certainly a chirpy little ditty. Completely the opposite direction to KBT too.

maybe not the greatest song, but a perfect mixtape selection slotted right before the truckers' "hell no, I ain't happy."

Isn't this a cover? I swear I've heard at least 15 other versions of a song that goes "happy happy happy happy" over and over....seriously, is this a cover?

I actually kind of like this - it reminds me of some of the less often explored poppy new wave 12"'s in my collection - original mirrors, china crisis, how we live - stuff that didn't remain in the public memory for very long but in which, if you dig through it, you'll find a decent amount of gems. There's also maybe a roots-rocky sort of Nick Lowe feel that's kind of part in parcel with the other stuff I described. Wondering how this'll play in the indie-'06 - I think it'd be fun to dance to, granted not immediately, but after a few cocktails, definitely doable.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
