Artist To Watch: Ferraby Lionheart

Fans of Rufus Wainwright, Elliott Smith, and The Beatles will want to get involved with Ferraby, a piano-and-guitar folkie that comes to us from the hipster-haven of Silver Lake, CA (but truly calls Nashville "home"). There's whimsy to his melodies and poignancy to his lyrics, but the timbre of his voice was the initial draw. A bit of a "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" feel to "The Fighter," but that's alright 'cause, at that point, Lionheart is just getting started. He's studied the family tree well, double-tracking "Won't Be Long"'s vocals (a la Elliott) to earn that instant, endearing vulnerability. We think you'll enjoy.

New Yorkers, tonight is your lucky night! Catch Ferraby solo at his NYC debut at Pianos. So far, it's just six songs on a self-titled EP, but we're promised (and looking forward to) much more. Another download at MySpace. Buy him here.

UPDATE: Late notice, but Ferraby invites you to see him tonight! If you want to brave the rain and let off some steam from a disturbing day in NYC, post a comment and we'll give a pair of tickets to two of ya.

you know, I loved elliot smith's songs, but that double tracking thing drove me batshit crazy. same with this. i always preferred smith live, where he couldn't do it. i'd like to see this guy's show, but i'm sure not buying any cd.
