New Arcade Fire - "My Body Is A Cage"

One by one, the tracks leak out. This time it's all about Win, "Climbing Up The Walls" with a self-doubting lament and distant tom thuds. The massive pipe organ is back, kicking in a minute, but this time it's more Radiohead than it is church sermon. Seriously great stuff, seriously getting difficult to wait for the rest of the record. Grab it at iGIF. (Thanks Yiyo) Care to feel Win's pain? Sing along to the lyrics, after the jump.

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key
My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

I'm standing on the stage
Of fear and self-doubt
It's a hollow play
But they'll clap anyway

[Repeat Verse 1]

I'm living in an age
That calls darkness light
Though my language is dead
Still the shapes fill my head

I'm living in an age
Whose name I don't know
Though the fear keeps me moving
Still my heart beats so slow

[Repeat Verse 1]

My body is a cage
We take what we're given
Just because you've forgotten
Doesn't mean you're forgiven

I'm living in an age
Still turning in the night
But when I get to the doorway
There's no one in sight

I'm living in an age
Realizing I'm dancing
With the one I love
But my mind holds the key

Still next to me
My mind holds the key
Set my spirit free

Another decent track. I really can't wait to hear the album from start to finish. The continuity and flow between tracks is always crucial.

Thanks, 'gum

I've enjoyed all three tracks that have been leaked or previewed so far. Normally I get my music from itunes, but i'm going to get my lazy ass off the sofa, put on some underwear for the first time in 2 weeks and BUY THIS ALBUM when it comes out.

This album will be huge. Not just because of the hype (let the backlash begin) but because everything I've heard so far has been freaking sweet.

This is a joke, right? Body is a cage. Ooook. It's a cliche because it's true. "Set my sprit free" over and over with a PIPE ORGAN? Hahaha. This is the fakest crap I've ever heard.

Arcade fire lyrics should never be printed. Seriously. What sounds good in a song comes off as mediocre high school poetry in print.

Keep in mind that the quality of this file is shit.

Seriously. It's a 22 kHz, 96 kbps mp3.

So not only is the bitrate low, it's at, like, half quality even for that bitrate.

I still love it.

So huge and dark.

Funeral ends with In The Back Seat kinda taking off and soaring. It sounds like Neon Bible ends by smashing you with that huge pipe organ's sound.

I can't wait to hear this in person.

I'm not going to listen to this one... I've already heard three of the tracks, and I'm basically just getting irritated that I can't hear the rest of the album. It's going to leak any day now... It's GOTTA.

What's with all the lyric bashing? A close reading of lyrics is irrelevant when the music is necessary to compliment them. But seriously, why don't you haters write us all some good, touching shit. Make it real poignant, careful though...wouldn't want to come off as an immature teenager, that would be totally unhip.

Engel's right, lyrics don't have to be Tolstoy when the music is perfect, and for "My Body Is a Cage," it works. I just got the whole thing from a torrent site and it's good but first impressions and my gut say it's no "Funeral." However, good enough to get me working on a review to post in a few days.

Lyrics aren't all that bad. An appropriate track to end the album. Album isn't really as catchy as Funeral, nor anything really like it now that I think of it..

I have most of the album, and maaaan! It's so good!

It really isn't Funeral at all, and this song is definitely my favorite. Sure, the lyrics are FOB status, but the music makes up for it and more.

buy it!

The ending is weak, but I love the rest of the song. Beginning catches your attention and keeps it with a slow and steady climax. Lyrics? Slightly gawdy, but the short dark and catchy word combos like
"I'm living in an age
That calls darkness light"
and
"We take what we're given
Just because you've forgotten
[That don't] mean you're forgiven"

overshadowed the go-go-glitter. My favorite song off of Neon by about 200%.

this song is kind of spookycool. it's got a really haunting noise, and the organ adds to that. it really creates a black picture, a sad one, and the image that is DOES create is amazing! so powerful, so deep and dark.

i'm not sure if i like the song entirely, its a little too emo darkness for me. but it's great.
