New Maxïmo Park - "Russian Literature"

Maxïmo drop the Devo for "Russian Literature," instead mixing some acoustic piano into a three-minute burst that flips from calculated, post-punk segues into a straight-rock hook. This tune also has the line that gives the UK best-selling record its name: "Our earthly pleasure distract us against our will / Are you hopeful or just gullible?" Too deep a question for a Friday afternoon, so just download and enjoy.

Maxïmo Park - "Russian Literature" (MP3)

Our faves remain "Our Velocity" and "Apply Some Pressure," both of which are streaming at MySpace.

Our Earthly Pleasures is out 5/8 on Warp.

Their new album already leaked, and from what I've been hearing, it's pretty bad.

The song is excellent, as is the album which has been out in the UK for a few weeks now.

While I don't love this track, I love what I found of the album I found on bitorrent. Sounds pretty solid to me, overall, tho.

The album is kind of like Bloc Party's new one in that the lyrics are really terrible but the music is...well...mediocre.

I personally thought that this album is much better than their debut, it shows growth and I already listened to it more than I listened to their debut that only had a few good songs but wasn't as good as a whole.

I thought the first record was brilliant. This one doesn't sustain as well after the first five or so songs. Still, it's better than 99% of the stuff out there.
