Kanye, Winehouse Lead 50th Annual Grammy Award Nominations
There's no getting through to grammy.com, but the music awards that engage your indifference like no other have announced this year's nominations, and with a mix of nostalgia, waning reverence, and morbid curiosity, we're checking in. While we wait on the full platter, here's some quick bites:
- Kanye West's Graduation leads the pack with eight nominations, setting the stage for a pack-leading eight expletive-laced and highly entertaining YouTube tantrums.
- With six nods, Amy Winehouse is second in nominations but first in people that need learn how not to get photographed with coke on the face (Soho, apparently the land of a million photogs and not one mirror).
- Amy and Kanye join Vince Gill, Herbie Hancock, and Foo Fighters in the Album Of The Year running.
- Feist gets a nod for Best New Artist. Which makes sense! Thank you 2007, Apple, and Perez Hilton for introduced us to her. Leslie's also up for Best Vocal Album.

Honestly...Herbie Hancock for Album of the Year? I'm all for diversity in music, but that is a joke.
How did the not honor Springsteen's "Magic" with a nomination?! Amy Winehouse deserves NONE of these awards.

God I hate the Grammys

Haha, let's give a grammy for a song that was released as a single more than two years ago and was only just now popular (Hey There Delilah). How do they decide what should be nominated for a grammy? A lot of fantastic albums that should be nominated aren't, like Crowded House's Time On Earth. It seems to me they want to boost ratings, so they choose the top singles and albums of the year, and not what was the best music of the year.

Oh, unless you are a musician/band who has been around for more than 20 years. Put out an album and you're guaranteed a grammy nod. McCartney, Springsteen, Fogerty etc..
Score = 0
Wilco, Justice and LCDSS got nods!! I mean, yeah the list sucks horribly, but hey..
Score = 0
when did Lily Allen become an alternative artist?
Score = 0
They best be giving the award to Justice.

daughtry? love? i think not.

Hopefully will nab Rap Album of the year in addition to AOTY. Out of those candidates he really crushes the field.
Score = 0
god forbid we show some love to the dillinger escape plan in the rock category. lord knows there were so many rock/metal albums that got 84 or above on metacritic.
Score = 0
Feist? Best New Artist... for her third album? She's been around since 1999. What the fuck.
Score = 0
The Vince Gill album is great. If you get a chance.
Score = 0
Menomena for best album packaging.
And Party Like a Rockstar for rap collabo or duo.
Nice.

I FUCKING HATE HEY THERE DELILAH

Who's willing to bet that Winehouse will show up completely wasted- if she comes at all?
Score = 0
how do these twats consistently fuck up the new artist category?

@Batten - You are a douche. Herbie Hancock is one of the greatest living musicians. If you've ever seen him perform, you would realize this in an instant.
Do you seriously think Kanye, Winehouse, Grohl or Vince Gill are actually better than him? Get a life and go study for geometry class or something.
Score = 0
The album of the year nods are insane. If Kanye doesn't win that, I'll be really surprised.
Spyro Gyra FTW!

Do the Grammys matter anymore? They're now as irrelevant as the VMAs. Don't see either event existing a decade from now.
A live television event in honor of the RIAA is like the crew of the Titanic throwing a party for itself while being capized.
The only thing that can save the show now are instituting some new categories like "Downloading Consumer of the Year" and "Label Lawyer of the Year".

remember when the grammys were culturally relevant?
yeah, neither do i

how the FUCK did Beck not get nominated for best album packaging??? (he just missed the cutoff date to be on last year's noms, by the way)
STICKERS!!!

You can be submitted for best new artist three times -- this is likely the first time Feist's label submitted her for nomination.
Score = 0
Icky Thump? What a dumb song. Some Zeppelin sounding riff with lyrics like you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too, na na na, and thunk a trunk.
Jack White is for knuckleheads.
And Herbie Hancock's Joni Mitchell tribute? It sounds like a nice thought but it wasn't that great.
Who am I kidding anyways. The Grammys have always sucked. It's always nice to see Bjork get a nod though.

"Coming up next, we've got the Grammy-nominated Soulja Boy, stick around." lol!
the only category i care about is the "alternative" and im happy that feist got a nod...just the wrong category -___- oh well Grammys just get suckier every year. to be honest. i mean, Daughtry gets nominated.seriously, u know theres something wrong with the guys that select the nominations when they pick DAUGHTRY. ugh.

Back to Black is a fantastic album. Though I liked it a lot more back in January before the Winehouse train-wreck media circus was in full force.
She's a waste-case, no question, but the album is solid.
Score = 0
this is depressing

Hey wingo...no disrespect to Herbie and he's heads above the company he keeps in that category...the man is a living jazz legend, I agree whole heartedly...but was it the album seriously the "album of the year"?
Frankly, I'm just pissed off (like I am every year) with these nominations. How many times does Springsteen need to get screwed...The Rising lost to Norah Jones' first record for cryin' out loud! He puts out his best album in YEARS and not even a nod. Not just cause he's old, but because he is a proven artist consistently putting out great material and deserves the nod...not some junkie who has a decent album because a great produser got his hands on her.
And yes, I realize my rant above only backs up the fact that Herbie Hancock deserves a nomination...so I retract that Herbie thing I said before...good for him...frankly I hope he wins.
Sky Blue Sky should have got an Album of the Year nod too. I DOUBT the new Foo Fighters or kanye record have as much mastery in playing and songwriting as that disc....
Score = 0
Didn't Paul McCartney team up with Jay-Z and Linkin Park to perform "Yesterday" at the Grammys a few years back? Yeah, they're just oozing with credibility. Though they did get it right when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica back in the day. Fuck you, Lars!
Score = 0
Lilly Allen is shit.
Let's go Maroon 5!
Score = 0
Nickelback got nominated for "If Everyone Cared."
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Score = 0
Will the Grammies ever learn not to nominate Kanye? He's just going to throw another hissy fit.
Score = 0
my soul hurts.
who's in for "neon bible" taking alternative album of the year? it's a great album but damn if it hasn't already caused many hard-ons in the music industry.
and lily allen is alternative? were they desperate?
Score = 0
This is a horrible representation of any sort of relevant musical achievement in the past year.
OK, so Kanye deserved to be an Album of the Year nominee, and I guess I could understand why a few of the Pop nominees are there, considering the nature of the genre, but winning a Grammy these days is completely irrelevant. Whoever is behind these decisions for nominees clearly have their heads firmly up their asses.
If I won a Grammy and actually took myself seriously as a musician/artist/whatever, I would feel insulted. I don't think I would ever even display it.
Score = 0
Everyone nominated for "POP PERFORMANCE BY A DUO OR GROUP WITH VOCALS" should be punched... well, most of the nominees should be, but them especially super powerful hard...
It's all poopy.
