My Morning Jacket's Evil Urges Album Art

thumbnail icon: My Morning Jacket's Evil Urges Album Art

Seeing Jim James with M. Ward at St. David's Church was one of our SXSW highlights (and watching My Morning Jacket showcase new material in Houston via video, another boon for the state of Texas). Now we get to see the cover art for MMJ's forthcoming fifth studio album Evil Urges. It involves a shadowy figure inside some sort of upscale theater. Let's hope he isn't succumbing to any of those evil urges...

Or maybe we're supposed to be implicating ourselves as the person sitting behind that dude? Holy mind fuck.

Evil Urges is out 6/10 on ATO.

I love this band with every fiber of my being, but cmon guys. Why do all you records (excepting At Dawn) have to look fucking retarded?

THis looks like a cover for an emo/screamo band that has a phrase for a name.

Im still there Day One, but bleccch.

Congrats to the first semester photoshop student who just learned about layers that got the gig to create the design.

I think it's an homage to Genesis.

as soon as i buy this record i am going to take a giant shit on the cover knowing that anything that comes out of my body will look better than that "art work." saving grace is the band still one of the best out there right now.

i'm sure the album is good but that shouldn't be any excuse for a shitty cover.

Hey, in case you guys are interested in another great music site, you should check out www.afamusic.com. It’s actually the website for this new digital label called Artists For Artists and, honestly, it’s got stuff for everybody, whether you’re a musician or an avid fan like myself.
All you have to do is register for a profile page (soo easy). If you’re in a band, you can promote your music for free, distribute your merch and albums, and even have a chance to win a record deal. For fans, the site is like a never ending supply of new music to discover.
It’s basically where digital music meets social networking. Seriously, so worth it.

this band gets away with way too much. people need to take control of the situation and stop hailing this band as the saviour of rock. it is remarkable what they get away with.

I was incredibly lucky to be one of maybe 250 people to attend MMJ's television taping for the 'Beautiful Noise' concert series this past monday at the Berkely Church in Toronto.

On the way in we were told that the band would play about 45 minutes to fill the show's air time... but then were promptly treated to just over 2 hours of absolute magic. These guys played what felt like a stadium sized show to a seriously tiny audience, complete with Jim James playing solos in the front row, grinning ear to ear. Such a special night, and here's hoping this album solidifies them as one of the most important american bands active today.

Oh the horror. Just because the music industry has gone downloadable crazy doesn't mean an album/ cd cover should suck. Art and music go hand and hand. I will still by the cd, just make my own cover for it.

Not a fan of the cover either, but the music is really what counts for me.

When is this thing gonna leak?

I'm a huge fan of MMJ, but I agree with the person who said this looks like bad, beginner's photoshopping.

And as to Missy Om's comment that the artist did the art for CSNY's Deja Vu as if this validates the cover art-- So what? You think resumes matter more that results? And since Deja Vu is more than three decades old when there was no photoshop or personal computers, maybe that geezer is just now getting around to learning phototshhop. It sure looks like it.

And if you're going to put a shadowy figure in there, why not be creative and use a female figure? They can be dark, menacing or mysterious too. All at the same time if you're lucky.
