Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Cover
It takes a special kind of band, and a special kind of slow news day, for us to get excited about an album cover preview. We heard enough new material Monday night to know we're gonna dig the new album (seriously, have Spoon ever put out a bad album?) and now we know what the album's gonna look like as a fly-sized square on our Nanos.
It's no red riding hood, but it is a 1963 Ugo Mulas portrait Lee Bontecou.

Greg, skip Telephono and just listen to the Pixies. Why bother with a subpar imitation. I like Spoon now cause they seem to have found their own sound.
Why is there a picture of a sculptor making art on the Spoon album cover? OH... CAUSE THEY ARE MAKING ART! ART ROCK! - seems kind of forced.

Telephono is actually great, but it's a completely different kind of Spoon than the one that exists now. Still, I'd take it over any album they've released this decade.
Oh, and the typeface on this cover is almost as lame as it gets. The only thing worse would be Comic Sans.

@Jonk: I'm dead serious. The newer albums are nice enough, but even if you reduced Telephono to a two-song 7" with "Nefarious"/"Idiot Driver" it would still be better than any of the newer albums. It's total lightning in a bottle.

i'm not saying telephono is their best effort, nor is it close to the pixies, but i wouldn't completely dismiss it. cvantez, wanted to be your, not turning off, etc are all great tracks. i can handle spoon with a pixies-vibe, i.e. rocking out every now and then. and don't worry, i'm already well versed on the pixies.

It's great Bontecou allowed use of this image. It is one of my favorites: with her socked feet in flip flops, casual stance and two of her best works from the 1960s in partial view.

It's leaked, I have the tracks, and it sounds good. I'm going to buy the album too, but this is a good way to hear it first.
"Underdog" sounds really cool, and "The Ghost of You Lingers" is interesting.

I first discovered spoon when I found a free disc of theirs ("30 Gallon Tank +3") in a music shop back in 1998. I put it on, listened to it twice, and then broke the CD in my hands, upon which it shattered into a hundred pieces and scared the hell out of me.
I think the band has improved a lot since then.

If you like "Telephono", check out their "Nefarious" EP, which was the first thing they released. Even more raw, and some of the same tunes.
I wuz there pushing knobs and turnin' faders. Badly, too, but not so much that you can't hear the band.
