Coldplay's Got A New Album, And You Can Hear It Without Going To Jail

thumbnail icon: Coldplay's Got A New Album, And You Can Hear It Without Going To Jail

Yes Coldplay leaked yesterday, elbowing Microcastle and Tha Carter III in the race for torrent search supremacy. But since you are all upstanding citizens of the Internet who refuse to consume music before it is available for legitimate listening, head to IHeartMusic.com for a full album stream of Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. And then join us later today for a little group Premature Evaluation session, yay. (Thanks for letting us know, Larynn.)

I like how they inserted a voice saying "Music On Demand" in long stretches without vocals. Lame.

Solid effort. Eno shines, very ambient - a little dark (good for coldplay). Epic w/out being in your face about it. I'd say B+, maybe A-. I hear alot of U2 (lots of kick drumming and edge like guitar delay riffs) and shades of Wilco (nice crunch in violet hill)

I thought I heard some hints of My Bloody Valentine at the end of "Yes," too. Like you said, dark works well for Coldplay which is why it's the band's best since Parachutes.

Im never so sure about coldplay. I cant really tell if i like them or not. They have some classic songs, but the majority are quite poor and soft.

i think this is a great album. x&y overdid the whole arena rock thing, and there wasnt much substance, but viva la vida is sort of like what *should* have been their next step forward after rush of blood to the head.

"yes" is the best song they've written, period.

It sounds like a bunch of desperate bloated bullshit with maybe three actual songs and then a bunch of fluff.

No thanks.

And....before people jump on me. I'm not a cooler than you dickhead - I own all the coldplay records and consider myself a fan - very dissapointed with this album. It feels like a band out of ideas and grasping at straws.

Chris Martin is a tool and a terrible father. I fully support the above encouragement of piracy. He's terrible for Apple.

I think this one's a grower. Nothing really jumps out at you with the immediacy of stuff on their first three albums - save for "Viva La Vida," perhaps - but I suppose that was what they were striving for anyway. Definitely more ambient, less arena rock.

i really like the continuity that the MUSIC ON DEMAND lady creates throughout the record. RIP!

ps. i miss parachutes. i liked that whole album. i liked maybe half of rush of blood, and i liked one song from x&y. so i guess this one is better than x&y at least.

but who really cares? screw coldplay, let's get excited about sigur ros' new one... and fleet foxes! i mean, that record blows my mind every time i listen to it. and i still can't get enough samamidon.

What?? I can't listen to it cause I don't live in the States??? They're not even an American band!!! This copyright bullshit has got to stop, no other country seems to have this. Fuck you America, I'm going to go stream the new Sloan album, probably ten times better anyway.

I never like success of any musician to get in the way of my like for them but I honestly feel like their style has moved into a more lazy, boring, and overwraught sound.

No longer simple beautiful melodies, these guys now go for the big sound. And it's incredibly boring.
