Jeff Mangum Plays With Olivia Tremor Control

I had tickets to last night's Olivia Tremor Control show at Bowery, but I was too tired to go (I know, lame -- but you know you've done it too). Apparently Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum joined the band for "I Have Been Floated" and was in tears at the song's end. Sounds like a great show. Maybe I'll go tonight! Here are three minutes of jangly psychedelia from OTC's epic Black Foliage. Animation Music Vol 1. I used to put it on mixtapes in college:

The Olivia Tremor Control - "A Peculiar Noise Called 'Train Director'" (MP3 link expired)

Also: The Olivia Tremor Control - "Hideway" (MP3 link expired)

You really have to own the album, though.

UPDATE: "Medium-quality" video of Jeff & OTC at spin.com. (Thanks Caryn!)

the mangum appearance made my hair stand on end. he was indeed in tears, mostly because of the crazy waves of love flowing from the audience. it was like dylan had walked on stage! can't wait to go again tonight.

Pretty weak story, there. I remember not going to a Yeah Yeah Yeahs show once. Wow, the lack of memories is overpowering.

not sure what the big deal is considering a couple of years ago mangum was a touring member of the circulatory system which is basically OTC minus bill doss.

BadmintonStamps posted a review of the Wednesday night show. I'm not sure about the term "sloppy" in this context, but it sounds like it was a good show.

Wow, the second one sounds like a cross between Badfinger and Todd Rundgren, in a good way. They really fucking capture that production/fidelity/vintage perfectly. Very impressive, but they've always been the acme technicians of the Elephant 6 crowd.

Mangum lives in my neighborhood. I see him around now and then and want to say something, but I don't know what. He seems like kind of a harmless but strange child. He dresses like a professional wood chopper.
