Letterman Reschedules Grizzly Bear, Ed Offers Us The Contents Of His iPod As Consolation

thubmnail icon: Letterman Reschedules Grizzly Bear, Ed Offers Us The Contents Of His iPod As Consolation

Careful students of TiVO's scheduling guide have known for weeks that Dave scheduled Grizzly Bear to be his music guest tomorrow night, marking the band's first performance in the Ed Sullivan Theater (save the time they were indie rock choir boys). Unfortunately the Late Show staff pulled a late minute flake out, deciding to "go dark" for the week. So reset the DVR for July 23rd, when Grizz will load in and perform a new song, tentatively titled "Two Weeks," from the already silly good follow-up to the Friend EP. Because of the date shift, Nico Muhly will no longer join them; instead they'll get key assistance from Footloose reimagineer Doveman. But wait, there's more.

It's been tough to schedule late night couch sessions around the band's performances -- remember they had to reschedule because of the writers' strike before wowing Conan, and somehow Jools Holland hasn't yet booked them for our UK friends -- so by way of apology to net savvy fans (I'm making that up), Ed's posted a playlist of what he's listening to these days including MP3s from John Maus, Santogold, Glass Candy, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and Bell Biv Devoe. Now you know. Download 'em here (scroll past the garden shots). If you're wondering what the new Grizz stuff will sound like, maybe you'll get a clue there. Or maybe you'll get a clue from the location of that new press shot up there, taken by Lane Coder at Asbury Park. Probably not though. Makes for good desktop, anyway. And take this please:

Grizzly Bear - "While You Wait For The Others (Live At Morning Becomes Eclectic)" (MP3)

Thank you.

"while you wait for the others" is easily one of the most interesting, sublime pieces of music I've heard in a long while...watching the video footage of that morning becomes eclectic performance is well worth your time as well.

I saw them last Wednesday, and I'm pretty sure they played this new song in question. It was definitely a new song anyways (and I'm not talking about "While You Wait For the Others") and it's arguably even better than "While You Wait...". It's a stunner. My friend recorded a pretty decent quality bootleg from the show so maybe I can get my hands on a copy...

When I saw them at Disney Hall in LA, I really felt like I had died and gone to heaven. Beautiful!

The new song was written by Ed and Christopher Bear and is my favourite Grizzly Bear song to date. Do not miss this, it will be historic.
