New Birdmonster - "Born To Be Your Man"

thubmnail icon: New Birdmonster - "Born To Be Your Man"

Remember Birdmonster? If you read blogs in 2006 you do. It's been a little while since we've heard from the guys. They rode a wave of blogposts straight into some bloglash, and then they blogged until blog in a blog blog. Point is, they're one of those bands (like old showmates Tapes 'N Tapes and Clap Your Hands) whose bio's been carved by the double edged sword of early and often internet attention, and here they are two years later with a new record (From The Mountain To the Sea) and a new label (The FADER Label) and a not Bon Jovi cover.

"Born To Be Your Man" does what it needs to well, which is set expectations for Birdmonster '08; they've recruited producer Tom Schick, whose past credits include Ryan Adams, Norah Jones, and Rufus Wainwright, and a good dose of that acoustically minded singer-songwriterism is running through this one. If there are stylistic markers associated with the 'blog rock' then, aside from a dated sounding guitar solo, this track isn't it. This is just a catchy and jangly little love song.

Birdmonster - "Born To Be Your Man" (MP3)

From The Mountain To The Sea is out 8/5 digitally, and 9/2 in the brick and mortars, via the FADER Label.

I thought their first record was pretty great. This song is just okay, but I'm still pretty excited for the album.
