New Dethklok - "Hatredy"

More than likely able to kick Gorillaz or the Mesopotamians' virtual asses in a bar fight, Dethklok, the animated death metal band from Adult Swim's Metalocalypse, released a record The Dethalbum last week and are going on tour with ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. Not bad for a bunch of head banging toons. (The music's played by Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small and legendary Dark Angel/Death/Strapping Young Lad drummer Gene Hoglan on the album...) Take a close listen to the humorous heaviness of "Hatredy" from the Dethalbum bonus disc.

Chicken and tennis, anyone?

Dethklok - "Hatredy" (MP3)

Watch out Nile! It's a pretty damn catchy song -- the lyrics about dying on stage and boning someone's wife only add to the pageantry. Anyone seen the show? Catch the boys trying on Dragonforce speed metal or going shopping. Our favorite moment occurs in the Metalocalypse intro, the five players riding a motorcycle with four sidecars. Now that's band unity.

"Hatredy" got us thinking of some other overdubbed shredding moments. Wow, Eddie's in tune!

The Dethalbum is out on Williams Street/Roadrunner.

Its pretty funny, but for my faux-metal cartoon money, I'll take Nelson: Rock & Roll Detectives

They are going to tour? Will it be the guys who actually play the music or will they go Gorrilaz Style and cgi the animations over real people. If it's like the Gorrillaz than it will be hillarious, and a must see.

Hey, Lentbox: The co-creator of this show, Brendan Small, is the same guy who was the mastermind behind "Home Movies". he did all the music, too, so it'll definitely remind you of Dwayne's music from HM.

Yeah, I liked Home Movies a lot, but at times it got a little slow and I would just wait for McGuirk to come back into the scene. I think Metalocalypse is a far superior product based on its sheer scope (despite shorter running time) and characters. I think some people are, at first, turned off by the metal and gore, so they just pass it off as being kind of mindless. To be honest, in the pantheon of doing one thing for 15 minutes, it takes the number one spot for me every week. I mean, there aren't too many Adult Swim cartoons that create as epic a scene as what was in the episode that ended the first season (Go Into the Water/Attack on Dethklok montage). Adult Swim generally just fills in the time before I go to bed on Sunday, but Metalocalypse (alongside the consistent animated perfection that is The Venture Brothers) really has set a bar for the the whole lineup. Yes, I know, I'm a nerd, but I still love cartoons.

That Dragonforce thing isn't in the actual show.
But Brendon Small pwns forever. You know it.

frisky had some funny episodes, but it's way too scattershot... which is fine in moderation, but i really need a litte bit of concrete material to go on...
