New Feist - "1234 (VanShe Technologic Remix)"

No surprise that lady Leslie's unforgettable Reminder coos are proving fertile fodder for the remix; in the same way one of her heroines, Nina Simone, was a natural foil to architects of textured danceisms on Remixed And Reimagined, the club kids are starting to dig into Feist's latest to chill effects (see Chromeo's four-to-the-dancefloor spin on "Sea Lion Woman").

This one comes from Vanshe's Technologic, a female affiliate of our old friends, Aussies Van She. According to MySpace...

Vanshe Technologic are the electirc love children of the shoegaze epic Van She. Vanshe's Tech, are, two girls who work closely with 2 of the band members of the band in order to create powerful and elegant, wacked out remixes from other peoples music for your dancing pleasure.
Have a listen of the girls' dirty Daft electro underpinning Feist below. Pretty good for a couple of electric love children.

Van She remixes never fail to please, and this is no exception. I can't imagine not liking this, unless your heart is a dark dark pit where a rattlesnake lives. They give everyone a sort of Jans Hammer/Miami Vice makeover. It's top-notch. Much better than that Boyz Noize remix of 'My Moon My Man'.

I don't know. If it ain't broke, don't remix it. The original is too perfect and subtle, this sounds like botched laser surgery in my eyeballs.

Remixes these days consist of dropping the vocal track into Garageband or Acid and putting a techno beat behind it, then changing the timing of the vocals so it "fits" with the crappy soulless beat. What happened to the art of the remix? It seems like it's been saturated by newbies Mac owners who figured out how to use a very basic piece of software.

Stinky! Apologies to all from Australia for destroying a great track. (ok written by an Aussie, but we have no right for such a trainwreck)

How can you tell the difference?! All indie-girl singer/songwriters look exactly alike. Same videos, same hipster/hippie dress sense and the same damn haircut! Surely there must be other haircuts that make you look deep and forlorn. Feist, Cat Power, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Rachel Yamiagata, Keren Ann et al all look the same. I take back the indie bit they're not very independent or individual at all. All that said I love Feist's album. She wears the uniform but thank God she found her happy, poppier self. Thanks for the post.

actually, scratch that, she's reenacting the end of Return Of The King where gollum bites frodo's finger off to get the ring

Do not want.

Yeah, I have no more bile left for this one. It's just bad and unnecessary. The song deserves so much better.

sean - clearly we have very similar tastes, and i'm hella with you on the van she uberlove. but how can you not think that the boysnoize 'my moon my man' remix is simply killer? *so very* good!!!

ben - re: today's remixes all sound like the work of newbie mac owners...there's certainly a lot of junk out there, but van she tech of all producers are so incredibly musical and detail oriented i'm not sure they deserve your (otherwise frequently accurate) disdain. they are, of course, songwriters/musicians themselves, and not just ableton jockeys; and i think it shows!

If the original Feist song is 5 egyptian's digging for pharoa's gold near a pyramid; the Van She remix is the goddamn launch of 300 nuclear submarines into goddamn orbit around the sun.
