New Joe Jackson - "King Pleasure Time" (Stereogum Premiere)

This spunky guitar-free jam from Joe Jackson's forthcoming Rain tells the story of the man, King Pleasure -- "show respect, get on your knees, you can't reject his right to please." If that's not hardcore enough, he laughs while dancing on folks' ashes and wants to overthrow the politicos. So, yeah, "King Pleasure Time" is much different than Hammer time. Wonder if anyone's going out with him? Okay, enough bad Joe Jackson puns: Great to hear dude steppin' out again, laying down a tight piano-based ditty with an ultra rhythm section and skinny-tied new-wave-y chorus.

Looking sharp, Joe. Couldn't resist...

Joe Jackson - "King Pleasure Time" (MP3)

The tune's so taut because "King Pleasure Time" and the new album feature three of the original Joe Jackson Band members -- Jackson on vocals and piano/keys, of course, with Graham Maby (bass/vocals) and Dave Houghton (drums/vocals) -- offering decades worth of gellin'. Recorded in Jackson's new hometown of Berlin, Rain's his first since 2003's Volume 4, and he isn't half stepping: the band plans a full-on international tour, landing in North American at the beginning of April (dates to come). For now, get a load of that bass sound again...

Rain is out 1/29 on Rykodisc.

Is stereogum a fool in love with this track? Obviously, they can't get what they want (until they know what they want).

No, not strange, I say. Don't you know that it's different for 'Gum (to have articles about Joe Jackson)?

I'm a tool, I know.

Jackson is the ultimate singer songwriter. This track proves he still has got what it takes to write simple yet powerful melodies. Back to basics and loving it. Can't wait to hear the entire album.

Jackson the ever underrated singer/songwriter who keeps coming back with better and better albums. Joe is still Steppin' Out in style. Speaking of Steppin' Out, Sara Schaefer's doing a pretty good job of it with her glowing tribute to Joe -
