New Sally Shapiro - "He Keeps Me Alive" (Stereogum Premiere)

Sally Shapiro's Disco Romance, released in Europe at the end of April by Diskokaine/Klein, has received a Stateside makeover that includes new cover art, an extended, 'til now vinyl-only "I'll Be By Your Side" and three bonus tracks: "Skating in the Moonshine", "Jackie Jackie," and, hey click below, "He Keeps Me Alive." The track we've got for ya is a blustery, bittersweet anthem evoking Annie and some St. Etienne, but also Jesus & Mary Chain rain dancing and Kylie's "I Believe In You" backed by the Knife. "He Keeps Me Alive" pulses across a particularly lush, dark palette, with the publicity-shy Swedish belle -- beneath the spot and vocoder of writer/producer Johan Agebjörn-- belting out a painfully optimistic love song at her own private italo disco. She tells us she's trying to be satisfied with chaste handholding, loneliness, and being friends with the unfaithful lout because (a) she's happy when he smiles ("it's hard to just ignore a face like that") and (b) well, his very presence keeps her alive. Of course, it's past midnight, snowing buckets through the roof. Absolutely love it.

05 "Anorak Christmas"
06 "He Keeps Me Alive"
07 "Hold Me So Tight"
08 "Skating In The Moonshine"

I saw PF streaming it this morning and have played it at least 10 times since (mor elike 20). It has something I cant quite put my finger on that makes it extra special.
