of Montreal Cover The Zombies

During their Track & Field days, of Montreal put out a little comp with the timeless title If He Is Protecting Our Nation Then Who Will Protect Big Oil? Our Children???, collecting various odds, ends, covers, and others. But a few years on, oM's become an even bigger rapture-raping sight and sound sensation, so Polyvinyl made the smart play and decided to snatch it up and re-release it upon the newly converted Barnes lovers. From IHIPONTWWPBO?OC??? (sweet abbreviating, eh?) comes this of Monty cover of the psych pop/harmony mavens the Zombies and their Brit invasion/roll-calling cut "Friends Of Mine." Will and Laura, Jeff and Laura, Bill and Amy, Eric and Barbara...

of Montreal - "Friends Of Mine" (MP3)

If you feel like further indulging in of Montreal covers and find yourself in the greater Beantown area, make it over to Boston's Revenge Of The Bookeaters show (tonight!), where oM's promising a stripped-down set featuring a "special mix of covers." Show's at the Berklee Performance Center and includes performances from Via Audio, Mates Of State, and funny stuff from Eugene Mirman. More ticket info here.

If He Is Protecting Our Nation Then Who Will Protect Big Oil??? reissue is out 10/23 on Polyvinyl.

@Chase - you nailed it.

Sounds like Of Montreal got the automaton band that performs "It's a Small World After All" to leave Disneyland and make a special guest appearance on their record.
