Oh No! Oh My! Cover Huey Lewis
Won't be 'til next year, but brace yourself for a project being billed as a joke gone, well, right: Are You Still With Me?!, a tribute to Huey Lewis. Conceived over laughs in '04, the project's coming to fruition in '08, and it's got some fun folks in tow. Yes, these indie cover comps are everywhere, some trying to take themselves more seriously than others. We had Guilt By Association where folks like Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Petra Haden (ironically?) covered the likes of Mariah Carey and Journey, but it's a whole other bag with Huey Lewis. "Stuck With You"? "I Want A New Drug"? "If This Is It"? Back To The Future?! Maybe there's a tad of guilt in confessing undiminished love for those pearls, but c'mon, Huey had the touch. And his touch was good.
As part of said tribute comes this cut, from Oh No! Oh My!, who said they came upon "Finally Found A Home" while scouring iTunes for Huey tracks, selecting the one with "the coolest hook." And on recording, they write:
We recorded and mixed the song within 2 days in our living room at our home in Austin. There are 3 simultaneous organ solos going on during the outro, nearly every keyboard track was written and recorded in 1 take-- just improvising as we went.Here's their take, free-wheeling and lo-fi as promised.

Huey Lewis went to my alma mater. Also he plays a mean harmonica. And he has a huge cock allegedly. And he had a big hit with Gwyneth Paltrow from Duets. In Australia at least. This might be Huey's year!

i'm totally with chris. i absolutely love huey lewis and the news. always have, always will.
when i was way young, my dad used to play the heart of rock and roll on our speakers and i would just go bonkers as soon as i heard those heartbeats at the beginning... wich was followed by crazy little spazz white kid dancing and air saxophone playing. oh man, to be young again.

Actually, the backing band on Costello's first record was a band called Clover, of which Huey Lewis and Sean Hopper of The News were members. Huey was not on the album though...

I was prepared to be annoyed, and then it wasn't so bad. I like the ending a lot. And it sounds like it was actually recorded in the 80's, which is kind of cool.
And I'm with brian. 'Power of Love' is one of the greatest songs of all time. We used to rock that song in 6th grade jazz band. I would go nuts on the keys whenever we played it.

Awesome. "Back In Time" was a pretty sweet song, too. I think my oldest brother saw Huey Lewis play like two or three years ago, down in Texas.

I am not going to go into anything big here. But I so understand what most of you all are saying. I, for some unknown reason, can connect with any Huey Lewis song. Even if you do not like them. If you listen, there is something there that everyone will understand or love. It is almost like, if you do not like it, one does not like life itself. Or at least what their lives are today. Maybe I am nuts, But I had to write that. thanks =)

I was born in 1976. When I was about 7 years old, I was absolutely certain that when I grew up, I wanted to be Huey Lewis. I was old enough to know there could only be one Huey, but there still seemed to be some logic to my aspiration in a Dread Pirate Roberts sort of way. HL&TN doing "Sports" for the next ATP "Don't Look Back" series? Even the cool kids would have to admit "Walking on a Thin Line" still resonates.

Huey and the crew are the greatest. They came to Oz way back when(late 80's/early 90's) and it's still the best concert I have EVER been to. I wish they'd come back because there would definitely be a huge audience for them. I love these guys and have since I don't know when!!!
