Stereogum Does CMJ: We Are Wolves/Cut Off Your Hands/Imperial Teen/Biffy Clyro @ FADER Sideshow, NYC 10/18/07

That's Biffy, nearly in the buff up there. So. We've had more than enough bands from Canada and/or bands with lupine names over the past few, but Abbey hit the FADER party on Thursday to see if Montreal's We Are Wolves are yet another worth loving. And they are, opening the day festivities at the space with a set laced with howls and "merci"s before Imperial Teen shifted things up a bit, sometimes losing the crowd but always keeping it sharp. Cut Off Your Hands were on the bill, too, with a set of manic dance-punk that put Foals' MHOW set to shame. Shades of ¡Foward, Russia! for sure, but those exclamatory Leeds kids aren't here (where are they, anyway?). Cut Off Your Hands, say yeah, etc. Last up was the NME-beloved Glaswegians Biffy Clyro, whose solid set landed "like a punch to the head." Some sonic samples:

We Are Wolves - "La Nature" (MP3)
Cut Off Your Hands - "You And I" (MP3)

More pics (plus) video of Biffy Clyro's "Glitter" and Cut Off Your Hands covering Sonic awaits...

Thx for posting this Biffy performance, Stereogum!
Even though the recording picks up the instrumentation more than the vocals, it was clearly a magical show -- the guys' energy & joy is so apparent!!

The guys in Biffy (Simon, Ben, James) are three of the most talented musicians on the planet -- it's so cool to see the U.S. awakening to the genius of Biffy Clyro. Sad that by the time Queens got around to booking a Seattle date, Biffy were already committed to their headline tour in UK and couldn't play that show. Definitely sad for Seattle, that would have been a fabulous show.

Rock on :-)
