New Gomez - "Moon And Sun"
The music industry goliath that is Grey's Anatomy is awakening from its summer-long slumber, preparing to chew up the iTunes sales charts and assert its iron clad dominance over FM radio as we speak. Also, the show is getting ready for its fall season. Really, Alexanda Patasavas's drama has become a genre unto itself, albeit one we can't always toss into a tidy Fray/Snow Patrol shitbox. Case in point: this year's show (and Vol. 3 of its soundtrack) boasts "Moon And Sun" a straight-to-Grey's exclusive from Brit kids Gomez. Why offer up a never-before-heard number for McDreamy's benefit? Gomez's Tom Gray explains:
When Grey's Anatomy featured our song "How We Operate" the scale of reaction was far beyond anything we could have imagined. Our website is continually inundated by people who've found our music through the show and its accompanying soundtrack. Alex Patsavas and Betsy Beers, apart from having excellent taste, have been great friends to the band. We're very grateful for their allowing us to share in the enourmous success of Grey's Anatomy.
While the band seems high on all things Grey's, don't worry -- they haven't signed off on turning "Moon And Sun" into an ABC-produced video/show-commercial. (That honor belongs to Mat Kearney's "Breathe In Breathe Out.") But they have turned over a dusky, romantic jangler which hits a heartfelt 'n' genuine stride despite its made-for-TV melancholia. I love Gomez, but this song isn't doing it for me... but it makes me happy to know that they are getting more exposure.

These songs that make it big through TV show exposure are, by and large, bland and all too similar to each other. What usually happens is that this moist and mildewy track suddenly becomes a hit and the band, following the scent, also goes moist & mildewy.
I'm not saying bands should toil in obscurity - far from it. But I do see bands take a trend toward mom-rock pastures when they succeed through this kind of exposure and it bothers me. While it is under different circumstances, remember that Goo Goo Dolls wasn't that bad of a band before their soundtrack song "Iris". After that, they were perfectly willing to eat the scraps Bryan Adams left behind. Just half-chewed food for thought.
And for whatever it is worth, anyone who willfully follows Mat Kearney anywhere probably deserves whatever they get.

I've really been enjoying Gomez's exposure through TV shows, paticularly with their song See The World on House, and this one's a good one.

Actually since the all 'How We Operate' Grey's episode, Gomez shows seem to much more fun here in Chicago. And did you see that MSN Music live show they hosted for like three months. Best 'Here Comes the Breeze' ever!
But seriously, can't we all agree that GOMEZ are much bigger than Snow Patrol. I mean they won a Mercury Prize, (or BPI I forget which), in the late 90's fer Christ's sake.

Let's be honest here folks, Gomez has offically sold out. And not recently either, they haven't had a decent album since "In Our Gun." What happened to the uniqueness and the drug induced ballads like "Gomez in a bucket?" The last few albums are missing the soul that first few gomez albums contained. Musically there is still overtones of the bands talent, but it is more obvious than ever that they're catering to the mainstream crowd. A true tragedy indeed.

I am absloutely baffled by the poor comments being made re gomez becomming Snow Patrol, no way jokers..... the Gomez troops are a law in their own, a unique sound which I totally love, you can't beat it, and if Grey's Anantomy are keen to snap up the new song, then fair play to the boys!!!
