On Zeitgeist And Cute Avatars

You should be outside, we should be, too ... but the good word is that the Pumpkins latest has hit the web, and youknowwhat.me.uk appears to be down (forever? foreverever?). Figured we could all use a little support group action. So, how are you guys coping? (With said site outage and/or the new Pumpkins, your choice.)

It's not down at all...they're just having DNS issues.

Head over to the Hipinion forums to get the info on it.

Or you could visit #i.t and read the forums and that for the direct address. Besides, surely it's everywhere on the internets now? It's pretty good, as well. Better if you actually wanted another Pumpkins album rather than, say, The Arctic Monkeys or the Decemberists - when people are moaning about the quality of the album on youknowwhat's forums because of Billy's voice you know there must be issues...

Plus, no-one should ever have to endure the Hipinion forums. Ever. For any reason.

I'd love to listen to this while driving around or something, but my ipod was unhappy today.

Talk about misery, jeez.

You know people, when a major website that brings too much attention to an already over-exposed not-so-legal site thinks thinks site is down...leave it alone.

per youknowwhat.me.uk - just go to boxden instead.

and as far as zeitgeist, im split over whether to call it a total disaster or a sorta decent album.

womacc, why don't you wait for all the other haters to post their repetitive negative comments and then post accordingly. it's easy to hate on shit, it's the positive reviews that take talent to write. Anyways, got the album, listened to the first 5 tracks so far and i am pleasantly surprised. It sounds like the good ol' Pumpkins that we knew and loved but different enough so that it doesn't sound like they trying to duplicate the past. I like it better than Machina and even Adore for that matter. Back to the album. Bye.

The album is incredible. Passes all expectations. I will absolutely be buying it the day it comes out.

Woohoo! Thanks, Derick! Now time for me to solve the problem of the rapidly-disappearing disk space so that I'll actually have an opinion to give on Zeitgeist.

derick's IP is part of a block owned by nforce.nl, which is seemingly legit, but still...probably shouldn't log in to a random IP.

hey billy corgan

I'm not hatin.

I been listening to smashing pumpkins since I was a little kid in the 90's - when they were good.

I'm not decided on this new album - but its mos def not even close to their pre-adore material. I do like some of the tracks - especially "united states" but I don't think its anything to get overly hyped up about - which the album was in the first place.

and now i present an imaginary conversation between myself (or, ME) and a generic pumpkins-supporting anti-hipster (or, PSAH) on the new smashing pumpkins album, "zeitgeist". enjoy...

ME: so i heard the new smashing pumpkins record, and it's actually pretty good.

PSAH: (angry, sarcastic) oooooh! "actually pretty good"?!?! you and your hipsterazzi posse just couldn't wait to shit all over REAL musicians who make REAL music, hurrrh?

ME: ...no. i just said it was pretty good. it kind of sounds like billy corgan hired a siamese dream-era smashing pumpkins tribute band to play along to his quasi-shitty poetry at times, but that's basically what the original pumpkins were, anyway. so really, by that criteria it was a good record overall.

PSAH: awww! what's the matter? not enough farfisa organ or hurdy gurdy for you, hipster?!?! i'll bet if those arcade FAGGOTS made "zeitgeist" you and your thick-rimmed glasses wearing cult of homos would absolutely jizz all over it!

ME: well, considering the arcade fire sound nothing like the smashing pumpkins circa 2007, i think most people wouldn't like it, actually. but speaking of the organ, the use of keyboards kind of annoyed me at times on the record, which, once again, i liked overall.

PSAH: DUUUUR, so inter-FAG can use keyboards and it's cool, but a fucking awesome band like the smashing pumpkins can't, huh? huh asswipe?

ME: ok, i missed the part where i brought up interpol, but they use them more for ambience than anything else. the keys on "zeitgeist" sound like a lame attempt at prog rock. and you seem to be forgetting i said i liked the record overall once again.

PSAH: BLUUUURHGH! AMBIENCE, HUH?!?! why don't you go listen to the new panda FAG album if you want some boring ambience shit! leave the REAL music to geniuses like billy, you pitchfork clone! i bet you just read pitchfork's review of the new record and they TOLD YOU not to like it you pretentious assmunch!

ME: dude...pitchfork hasn't even reviewed the album. as a matter of fact, have YOU even listened to it??

PSAH: (long pause) FAG!

the end.
