New Drive-By Truckers - "The Righteous Path" & "I'm Sorry Huston"
Jason Isbell moved on and prospered from his questionably amicable split with Southern-fried Stereofaves Drive-By Truckers, and now the moon's shining on DB-T's turns in the studio. A few months ago they backed up Bettye, here they're kicking up shit while trying to stay focused on "The Righteous Path," and having Shonna issue a gutted, sunset apology to Huston. Both are our first listens of their forthcoming LP, and both ("I'm Sorry" in particular) are promising hints that the Truckers are about to unleash another southern rock opera. Have a listen to both, as well as previously added new cut "A Ghost To Most" at MySpace. Brighter Than Creation's Dark is out 1/22 on New West. DB-T are supporting the record with tour dates through February and March, listed after the jump.

I don't give a shit that I'm first.
I fucking love DBT. Can't wait for the new stuff. And according to their MySpace it's being released on double vinyl and they're reissuing the entire back catalog on vinyl as well. ROCK!

Actually, they posted 'A Ghost To Most' about a week ago. So, these would be the second batch of new album tunes.

The thing is a damned opus. 19 tracks without a dud to be found as yet. Shonna sings lead on two other songs in addition to "Huston"...each of which is magnificent. Already a lock for best of '08...thank heavens.

After listening to "The Great Car Dealer War" on MySpace, I find this Patterson Hood in Richmond boot:

I saw them at the bowery a couple of months back. Bo-ring. The previous time I saw them they converted me as a fan-- this time the alienated me. The new songs are okay. They are capable of the biggest rock, but the dullest roar.

jason and the 400 unit opened for cracker and put on a great show. not sure if i will like dbt minus j.i.

I love DBT! However when they split with Jason I was upset because most of the songs I liked were either written by or sung by Jason Isbell. That being said I still love DBT and Jason's album is Fanfreakingtastic. I have heard the new songs and it gets me all excited again to hear some DBT! I bought the 4 songs avail from the newest album on the Zune marketplace.
