Brian Williams On Interpol, Cat Power, Feist

Is Brian Williams's iPod cooler than Anderson Cooper's iPod? The NBC Nightly News anchor throws the gauntlet in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel (he doesn't call-out AC, but we like making things into competitions) when he discusses the relative merits of Our Love To Admire ("I think the first three are the best cuts on the album. It didn't get very good press 'cause they're an NYU band and they kinda change with this album."), Feist's "1234" clip ("it's Scorcesian"), and Cat Power ("[she] will really bum you out. Don't ever mix that with, like, anything else")...

Cue in at 2:30 to get the rundown of what Brian listens to (on noise-canceling Bose headphones) while he writes the news. He's funny and smart, and he always kills on The Daily Show and Conan, but maybe the news would be better and more informative if he was truly bummed out? In addition to Cat Power, he should be required to listen to GSYBE's "Dead Flag Blues," Chocolate Genius's "My Mom," and the Swans' "God Damn The Sun" for the rest of the year.

It always gives me hope when supposed "grownups" disclose a healthy love of music...

I can be a grown up and love music and be a superstar!

He's the only person I've ever heard that admits to liking She Wants Revenge.

Williams is the only one I can stand to watch on network news out of the current crop of "talent". Definitely the heir apparent to the Peter Jenning's School of Cool. I think Katie Couric is terrible.

Surprisingly impressive all around. It's a shame that Brian Williams has to discuss pop culture to promote himself, but he handles himself well. Jimmy Kimmel comes off as a surprisingly professional celebrity interviewer.

One question though: how'd they clear NBC's anchor to appear on ABC's late night talk show?

@ Steve:

The same way cast members of Lost appear on Leno or Conan. Or how cast members of Heroes appear on Letterman.

@ Ben:

What? He's been dating Sarah for like five years.

Chocolate Genius? his second album's a BOATLOAD more depressing than "My Mom", if you can believe it. It's a terrific album - pick it up.

Also C. Genius (aka Marc Anthony Thompson) is on Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions' Live In Dublin album (cuz he's in the band itself). There're some real nice moments on it where he gets to solo or sing.

Painful and awkward name dropping...how long do you think he practised this routine before the show? Lame.

He's a network news anchor - his job is to be painfully awkward.

What the hell is wrong with She Wants Revenge? I think they're great, and a fuckload better than a lot of other popular bands today.

He's adorable. And as much as I dislike Kimmel (I don't know what it is, he just seems like a douchebag) he actually lets his guests talk, which is really nice.
