Get Colbert An iPhone

Today is iPhone day, no getting around that. There's the crazies camped out at Apple's SoHo and Midtown locations (whom we may go take pics of later today, why not), there's the luddites that think it's all nothing but tech hype ... and then there's Stephen Colbert, who's a satirical gadget-envy ridden mess.

If you're reading this from your soon-to-be-disposed smartphone in line at Station A on Prince St., drop us a line so we can take a picture of you to post and ridicule. And then mug you on your way out of the store. Thanks!

Who's got plans to pony up the cash for one of these things? Waiting for second generation? Or just non-plussed altogether?

Waiting. $600? No thanks. Maybe half that and we'll talk.

Pure hype - locked in with AT&T, pricey phone service and overpriced phone, no keypad, limited storage capacity. Hardly a replacement for either a PVP or a PDA. People will buy whatever product Apple hypes. Well, except the Newton. C'mon people, do some research and you'll find better offerings out there!

Nuts. These things will be cheaper and/or better just in time for Xmas. Make mine a 2G.

I'm up in Canada, so (un)fortunatly we don't get any Apple love. However, now when people ask me what the difference between Americans and Canadians is, I can finally tell them.

I'm a huge Mac disciple, but there is no way that I am forking over $500 for an iPhone. That is half way to a new Macbook!

I am not camped out (sadly I had to work today), but I am hoping to get one from the online apple store at 6pm. If not today, then I'll backorder -- I'm interested in it, and I'm already on AT&T/Cingular. Hopefully the bugs aren't too bad. (I'm an early adopter, what can I say...)

i'm definitely waiting as i just got the samsung blackjack which isn't half bad. it's 3g, there's instant messaging, internets, uhhh basically everything minus the ipod-ness of the iPhone. and i have an ipod so whatever

it's
a. too expensive
b. prob has a lot of kinks
c. too expensive

i'll wait for a while
i mean just look at the progression of the iPod.
there's bound to be something bigger and better later on.

I will be the proud non-owner of an iPhone for the rest of my life.

I mean, I don't have a problem with the iPhone, I have a problem with the kinds of people who buy the iPhone. Frankly, if I were grouped into the same, I'm-poor-so-I-always-have-to-prove-I'm-not people, I'd be pretty damned embarrassed.

I seem to remember you guys being all in a tizzy over the Zune. Remember that? You were so wowed by it's wireless features, oh man, that thing was going to be great. Now Apple comes with something that may not be as great as they claim it is, but it's still a step up from the cellphones we have today, and you can't wait to start sniping (without having seen the thing firsthand, mind). So, I just gotta ask, are those Microsoft cheques paying your bills plenty, or what?

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
