Devendra Banhart Cribs

Ever wonder what a neo-folky's house looks like? Yeah, we never did, either. But hey, echoing the Pernice Brothers' idea for indie rock cribs, Devendra Banhart takes us on an intimate tour of his Topanga Canyon crib -- and it's a hell of a lot more like our own place than Kanye's pastiche palace. On top of modeling '80s carnival masks, he shows us Neil Young on the fridge, Macho Man Randy Savage's rap album, "USA/Butt" graffiti, his art/tattoos, and -- proving his hippie pedigree to the world -- a full-on jewelry-making studio (doves made of bones!). Last but not least, dude owns Jim Morrison's old couch. Hey, maybe our Doors references re: "Seahorse" weren't so off thee mark? Step inside...

We still think Smoky Rolls Down Thunder Canyon drags, but Banhart's so charming and downright sensitive when he starts talking about Malachi Ritscher and Native American art that maybe he should give more house tours whenever he feels the need to add another tune to an overstuffed track list?

Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon is out 9/25 on XL.

Wait....this is seriously cribs? I thought it would be like an ironic low-rent indie version...but this is really cribs?

I didn't like "Smoky Rolls Down Thunder Canyon" too much at first, but I saw him last night in Omaha and it made sense, all of a sudden.

I would suggest lifting your boycott of his live shows. I haven't danced so much in quite a while.

In this clip it is especially clear that D.B. looks EXACTLY like Crispin Glover in his "Reuben Farr" character.

he dedicated his album to a guy who set himself on fire because he thought it was "a really intense...thing"

his show at the danforth centre in Toronto is $40 dollars! I would go but that's way too much money. Come on if he can appear on cribs he can afford to bring down his ticket prices!

Whoa - I always kinda dismissed him as another hippie-throwback Topanga smelly weirdo. Which, I guess he pretty much is.

But now I somehow like the dude. It seems like hanging out at his pad would be really, really chill and peaceful.
