Grizzly Bear Bring "While You Wait For The Others" To Conan

thumbnail icon: Grizzly Bear Bring "While You Wait For The Others" To Conan

Few songs get as much of pre-release buzz-up and as many swoony mentions as the Grizz's first glimpse at post-Yellow House/Friend, "While You Wait For The Others." You know a good tune when you remember exactly where you were when you first heard it (and when it tops your live experiences of the year) and it looks like Conan -- "I really liked that band. I think they're going places. I hope they'll take me with them." -- won't be forgetting it anytime soon, either. He closed the show by looking at Kal Penn for some reassurance to his Grizzly rave, but Kal looks like he's about as into Brooklyn buzz bands as he is herb and burgers (see because earlier he said he doesn't smoke herb or eat burgers). Like we said last time: "Threads through to their love for old '60s pop in the harmonic feel, building off of the sort of dynamic avant folk they've been slinging of late, flooding the sepia of Yellow House with a lot more sunshine ... yeah, pretty fucking good."

Just part of the reason GB was our favorite live act of 2007. In somewhat related Conan/Radiohead news, yesterday it was announced that Thom & Co. would be offering Conan a "Greener Than Live" performance tomorrow night, 4/23. Expect "House Of Cards," pre-recorded to avoid a carbon footprint "equivalent to driving one's car for a solid year."

But you should set your TiVO for that, since tomorrow night you'll be at BAM to watch Grizzly Bear settle into Paul Simon's residency. This summer Grizz opens for the green-minded Radiohead, later this year Dan's Dept. Of Eagles project (produced by GB's Chris Taylor) puts out an album, and then the Bear go back into the studio for LP3. We realize Mr. Rossen could probably use a vacation. But being a workaholic suit him.

Oh my God, Ed Droste is so short!

(Oh, and the song's fantastic!)

Ed is the tall one second from the left. Dan is the shorter one singing.

Ed is the tallest one in the band I think...but Conan dwarfs them all.....the jolly red giant he is...

I'm really glad Dan was out in front singing the lead. The entire band is great, but I really feel like he is the definition of their unique sound and deserves a lot of respect for being a great musical talent. Here's hopeing all the kids hear that song and run out and buy "Yellow House" on accident thinking it's on there.

Kal Penn's actually a vegetarian. I can't vouch for his musical tastes, but he is in a (really bad) music/comedy video that's been floating around the Web for a couple of years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlxhD284RKM. And yes, that's the dude who played Superman as the cop. Was it just me, or did anyone else watch Superman Returns and wonder why Kal Penn was in so many scenes but had no lines? It's like he was the token brown guy. Toss a brother a bone!

The first Harold and Kumar movie was dumb, but in that dumb-funny way. The new one just looks dumb. But I guess I'll reserve judgement until it comes out.

Nice song... I don't think it'll be a JFK assassination or 9/11 moment, though.

i did my best to stay awake, but Conan's opening monologue put me to sleep [z_z]

Anyways, they were not kidding when they said that "Alligator (Choir version)" was a peak into the future, these songs are like twins

Second time I've heard the song. Love the chorus and lyrics. Great harmonies and melody. Definately can't wait for the next album
