New John Vanderslice Video - "Time To Go"

In which a suited man and a boy in warpaint and tie headband stare longingly while blogger hero JV sings it's "time to go ... to go, to go" like an indie rock Rihanna. There's some measuring by the man going on, and the pursuit of green apples; but, honestly we've watched it four times and could use some subtitles. No matter, this a strong first single from Emerald City. Which is why we watched it four times.

Emerald City is out 7/24 on Barsuk Records. If somehow you missed John's Stereogum-commissioned cover of "Karma Police" head here.

I heart John Vanderslice, for everything he is and everything he represents. I got to see him play for free earlier this year at a friend's suggestion - it was a lovely show.

I don't know, I'm just not feeling Emerald City. I keep thinking the whole time I listen to it, "wow, Pixel Revolt's better in every single way."

Really? I haven't listened to EC yet....although I like White Dove. Bummer if that's the case.

I've heard Emerald City and while it takes a few listens to get used to, this is an EPIC JV release.

This is JV Fusion at its best. You can no doubt hear a little part of each previous record throughout the record.

5 stars.
