New Kanye West - "Can't Tell Me Nothin'"

Presumably the last in Kanye's educational-themed LP trilogy (unless he's going for Grad School: Kanye Gets His Ph.D. next?), Graduation sees release this September, boasting guests John Mayer, Chris Martin, and the return of genius producer Jon Brion. But no need to wait 'til then; have a listen of album track "Can't Tell Me Nothin'" via this YouTube stream brought to you by the most gangsta show in Los Angeles.

His next album is called "A Good Ass Job".

Don't quote me, but I believe I read somewhere that there are going to be four albums in the college theme. After "Graduation Day" there is supposed to be an album called "Good Ass Job." I'm assuming that "good ass" is the adjective and "job" is the noun. I won't let that stop me from reading it as "Good Assjob" and chuckling a bit at the unintentional gayness of it all though.

Wow, that sucked.

When will the generators of Urban music give up the whole sample-and-rhyme formula?

Kanye has as much lyrical dexterity as my son.

Eh.. it's not nearly as interesting as his last two records.. but then again, I'm sure this album is going to have some pretty catchy tunes, as well.

The new single "Stronger" is pretty dissapointing. So lazy, it's just a sample of Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

it sounds like a demo. There's only one vocal track layed down. i expect a more polished version on the new album. cant say im too big on it though. Kanye's just OK.

adam's right. during an interview back in the college dropout-era, kanye titled all of his albums, and it would run in this order: college dropout, late registration, graduation day, good-ass job.

for all of the egotism, i suppose you have to give it to kanye for sticking to his guns.

Okay, so NOW can we just admit that "Late Registration" was perhaps the most massively overrated rap record of all time?

And I know it's been said before, but this guy really has business being on the mic. He couldn't rhyme his way out of a wet paper bag with scissors in his hands.

This is a very good song. Jimmy Iodine, if you dislike sample and rhyme--I mean, what do you think Hip-Hop music is about?--then you shouldn't be listening to Kanye West anyway. I suppose you all like Late Registration more than College Dropout?

Kanye west is the realest out. If you don't think he's nice with the lyrics, you're probably livin' in that underground fantasy world. I mean, what's the point of being lyrikal and not really saying anything??? Kanye west makes strong points when he raps.

this song is pretty dope, i like how kanye used young jeezy for all jeezy is good for, his "ha haaaa" and "yeeeea" parts. and to the moron who said that this track should prove that late registration was overrated... hmm, what does that mean? this song isn't on late registration. are you like 10 yrs old or something? and to the people who don't like sampling, should realize almost every major artist uses samples. even if they sample their own stuff it's still sample and computer generated. some would say that it's more difficult to make a strong song out of sampling other people's works than sampling your own. if you've never produced music though i could see how your ignorance would come into play.
kanye's 1st cd was way ahead of its time and so was his second. i'll expect nothing less of the third.

i've posted this before, but still most people still need to hear what the rest of us people who understand what Kanye is say, and how this video was supposed to seem low budget and all that stuff...

Wow most of you people posting stuff like this video sucks or hip hop is dead your complete idiots, i would say no offense but then the sarcasm would be to high for most of you people to understand

Ok first of all to the person who said hip hop is truly dead you probably don't even understand what hip hop is in that fact, the point of the video is so that you concentrate more on the lyrics than the video.I'm truly sorry that this song doesn't have the eye candy you like seeing in other rappers music videos , who have half dressed girls, cars and all that other nonsense. And to those of you who say that the video is boring and or wack, i guess you don't know anything about cinematography, the changing camera levels and shots make the area that Kanye is larger than it truly is, and we also call that orginality for those of you who can't find what your orginal at and copy someone else. It takes people with good understanding to understand something good which most of you people lack honestly. If you hate something please don't post stuff that doesn't help, and the more haters there are the better people will do when they are making music the only reason why most people do what they do is because of you people who post bad stuff.

Yes we all know that Kanye has the ignorance of kid, but he is clearly showing it in this song that he is aware of it and this song has so much sarcasm i hope most of you people see that. But honestly give him the props he deserves, he is truly a good man like all people just had a bad experience.Thank you for seeing my view of this song, and as you can see i am a Kanye fan no matter what.

And fuck you yung joc, jibbs listening ass posers thinking they know hip hop. Kanye the shit as an artist and an even better producer

Kanye always bring light to the game of hip hop. I m tired of people rapping about what they do to cars, how they move what they see in the movie BLOW and about jewelry. Hip hop and the lyrics depict and tell a story. With that story comes a lesson learned. True lyricists speak about real shit. Anybody can move a package and do shit to a car and degrade broads. They do it to themselves, so that is all the modern day "rapper" knows to speak on. With that being said, hip hop is dead in some form, but lives in the lives of those who speak on the realness of what it use to be and what it is now. No need to be mad at that man for his skills, either way it's still going to be an album to remember. Only children listen to nursery rhymes. Adults listen to punchlines and stories that portray the way they use to live, the way they are living, and will live. One..

Let's give everyone a schooling here...

Even if you escape mainstream/commercial rap and listen to the more gritty underground artists --like Murs, Immortal Technique, Pharoahe Monch, and Brother Ali-- you will hear sampling. Even 9th Wonder has sampled here and there (wonderful dude by the way, a genius with his Fruity Loops). So let's get over that. These artists have grown up with most of the music they sample, so it's really no surprise when they dibble and dabble piece and bits for their own creation.

But let us not forget that Kanye is a paramount in the history of hip hop.

Sure, we all know of the legends. Nas, Jay-Z, KRS-One, Rakim, Tupac, Biggie, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow, Talib Kweli, the Black Eyed Peas (PRE-Fergie), Mos Def, and MANY others that I KNOW I've failed to mention. But as the great Nasir Jones once said, "Hip Hop is dead." In an era where almost anyone can be famous, hip hop has fallen silent to fools like Yung Joc, DJ UNK, Rich Boy, the Game, 50 Cent, and even Lil' Wayne (Who may have a fierce punchline-type flow, and a genius with the metaphors, he is still overrated). But one day in 2003, a man helped us through our troubles. Kanye is trying to bring back the element of hip hop. He had resurrected the great Common, introduced us to Lupe (even though technically he was already doing his thing with Jay-Z), and even threw a little bit of GLC and Consequence in the mix. So let us not look over that. And anyone who can rhyme with Nas, Rakim, and KRS-One and still hold their own is a beast in my book.

I'm going to assume that the ones that don't get the song and its content are truly ignorant. Yall are the one's that they refer to when t hey say some people just skim through the songs and don't LISTEN.

Grow the fuk up and expand your ignorant a$$ mind. Kanye spits the truth and it is all throughout this track. If you aren't feeling it then you're wack and must have a very narrow mind and limited vocabulary. Take your a$$ to school and read a book, and then maybe you'd get on the level that the rest of us or on.

It's time out for that senseless rap that has no subject matter. Yall make me sick with those simple minded remarks nd disrespectful views. The minute someone drops some knowledge on yall's dumb a$$, yall got something negative to say. Go stand in the middle of a busy intersection.

I thought the entire point of this song/video was to capture his raw emotion. He's already proven his musical complexity & dopeness on joints he made for Talib, Jay-Z, Beanie, Alicia Keys, etc..., so when he makes a plain beat he's wack now? Wow. Don't let ya personal opinion of a person influence what you think of their art.

I just wanted to post a quote from barnesannoble.com which is selling the album

"...by releasing two singles that you wouldn't expect from the soul-sampling genius. "Can't Tell Me Nothing" is a shift from what we're used to hearing with added vocals from Australian pop star Connie Mitchell that are reminiscent of, but oddly enough are not sampled from a previous song."

Again...the "sample" vocals are by connie Mitchell and most importantly...

"...ARE NOT SAMPLED FROM A PREVIOUS SONG"

so for everyone that was writing that the song is unoriginal because of the sample or that Kanye West is not original...i guess you were just wrong but it's Ok cuz i know it's so hard not to act reckless....but still.. u can't tell me nothin. haha
