New Liars Video - "Houseclouds"

The driver-side projections and vehicular flicker of "Plaster Casts Of Everything"'s video were intense, so nice to chase the car ride with mellower fare like the Sonny Gerasimowicz-directed "Houseclouds," a cuddly video for another standout from Liars supremely claustro, Kraut-y, and a.m.-radio edged eponymous fourth outing. We originally called "Houseclouds" "a teenage pill-dropping anthem that pulses with disco high notes and skittering electro-drums." That opiate haze is here, but it's more about your parent's pets. What the fuck, you ask? With mates dressed like Southern gentlemen (or Northern nerds?), Angus Andrew, necklace dangling, writhes shirtless, serenading a very small, languidly playful kitten.

Yup, Aaron gets a whippet, Julian, an orange Morris cat -- but regardless of who's paired with whom, dudes are on a seriously cotton-mouthed tip, softening the skittering percussion, reminding us that sometimes things sound so much better slow (thanks, Lou). That said, Angus's cat is definitely the cutest. Frontmen always win!

Liars is out on Mute. The "Housecloud" 7" arrives 11/20 in North America. You can also get it as a CD or download. All include a new tune "Red Dirt" and a remix of "Clear Island" by Tiny Masters Of Today, who we caught live last week and who ruled the pre-teen stage with drummer Russell Simins. The CD has an uncensored "Plaster Casts Of Everything" video (egad), and the other formats will land you a newbie called "Dear God." XTC?

Wow, the keyboard line is lifted directly from the Stranglers "No Mercy" (from the Aural Sculpture album...check out the sample on Amazon).
