New Maroon 5 Video -"Wake Up" (Director's Cut)

Ever get the feeling Maroon 5 videos are just a thinly veiled front for Adam Levine's "I-roll-around-in-bed-with-hot-women" exhibitionism? Well, why would you think that? Now this is the director's cut of Levine's latest more-glam-than-you odyssey, and it's cinema-style like "She Will Be Loved" -- with less Kelly Preston and more of Levine popping caps in asses. But still there's the obligatory Adam-and-model-in-bed scene, and the ending's quite a shock. Throwing money at a throwaway tune -- bless this industry.

doesn't blogging about this show how much you people care about Maroon 5, and that you are envious of that guy? That is lame. making fun of people to mask your envy?

this is the proof that stereogum is owned by some fucking coporatation and then they write funny little things about the artists so we dont think they are into it but still can cover them. goodbye.

HELLO people - this is a music blog. Music. not an elitist hipster blog. some of us like to stay informed on all fronts and reading/blogging about it doesn't mean that we blast maroon 5 on our ipods. go back to P4K.

It's a music blog. You can read only the elitist stuff if you like, but we've always cared about popular music:

If we only wrote about Sunset Rubdown there would be very little to blog about!

Gum,

You should run an "exploding car" music videos thread - I can think of at least five on my own...

the best way for me to show that i don't think this is music and that it proves stereogum only posts about music released by giant corporations despite all evidence to the contrary is to curse and once again announce that i'm never coming back.

Random aside: they totally filmed the band playing at the same place where the car race takes place in Grease. Huh.

hahahahahahhaha this is one of the worst videos ever. it's like a poorly acted violent porn. why the hell is adam killed? for blowing up a car and killing someone? why are there random lesbians and strippers touching themselves? what is this proving?

all i can see is that maroon 5 is horrendous now.

Wow. All this whining about what stories Scott chooses to cover. Imagine what would happen if you hipster elite had some long term memory and recalled all the Britney posts this site used to focus on with a near obsessive, er... focus. Yeah.

I'm not going to lie, I like Maroon 5. I have both of their cd's, and this song is probably the best (and my favorite) from their latest.

But dear God, that video is a piece of crap, even for M5 standards. It's yet another of too many oveproduced add mini-movies with no real point and no real relation to the song (not that that's necessary, but it is at least expected).
BOOO. M5 and stereogum can both do better. :[

One of my students this week informed me that Maroon 5 were "a bunch of raging cokeheads", to which I replied, "I can see that."

The I suggested that maybe they needed to take more, since their new material sounds like Backstreet Boy B-Sides.

The student said that he knew people that used to work for Maroon 5.

That video was pretty much a trailer to all that is the "summer blockbuster"- T & A, explosions, and the frying of Adam Levine. Pretty fun concept.

As for Stereogum covering it...well that's pretty fun too. Wouldn't have seen that version of the video anywhere else (without knowing to look for it), and not everything can be about the lesser-known indie bands. Diversification of musical tastes ain't a crime.

Duke: "The student said he knew people tht used to work for Maroon 5."

Um, and...?
And yeah, stupid post. Cater to what your readership actually cares about, 'Gum.

This kind of post is precisely what sets gum apart from predictably pretentious drivel like P4k. Real music lovers embrace all sorts of genres, even(god forbid) popular ones. If you can't take a little poutty Levine with your Handsome Furs I think Ryan Schreiber could use another handjob.

As for the video itself, Cold War Kids' "Hang me out to dry," anyone? Look out for a threequel.

As a Maroon 5 fan I personally think this video sucks I had a much better video concept in mind for this song.

I cant get Why Adam was killed doesnt make any sense at all.

but thanks for posting it

I think this video is funny.
Why whine? if you don't like it, at least have the good sense to let it make you chuckle.
Elitists are worse than Maroon 5.
This video is a perfect example of the current state of pop culture and the fact that it exists is kind of important.
Yeah, I hate Maroon 5 too and I think this video is awful, but at least it knows it is.
Elitists could learn a thing or two from Maroon 5, and I hold to that.

it's not that maroon 5 is popular, it's that their music sucks. therefore, why would they be on this music blog?

Posted by: adam at 08/07/07 9:40 AM | Reply

Maroon 5 used an anarchy symbol as the letter a, they are sooooo hard core. *cough*
And since I pretty much get all my musical knowledge from blogs, I'm glad some of them post stuff about popular music so I know what my friends are talking about. Forget that they haven no idea what I'm ever talking about, but I don't choose my friends based on their musical tastes. Maybe I should. Then I wouldn't have to read blog posts about Maroon 5.
