New Nada Surf Video - "Whose Authority" (Stereogum Premiere)

Nada Surf's new Jonathan Krisel-directed video for "Whose Authority," from the forthcoming Lucky, stars Michael C. Maronna, who you should all remember as the elder Pete from The Adventures Of Pete and Pete. Classic. Here, instead of dealing with his pain-in-the-ass kid brother or doing those sensitive wise-beyond-his-teenage-years voice overs, he's working as a bad-ass bicycle messenger delivering packages around Manhattan after leaving his Brooklyn crib. En route he disrupts pigeons, chats with other two-wheeled friends, kicks over traffic cones, knocks on buses, and narrowly escapes collisions with taxi doors before heading back over the Wiliamsburg bridge and calling it a day. Yes, home to that cool place MTV told us about. Gosh we hope Kyp says hi this time.

That's a really catchy song. Also: Like that Led Zeppelin commercial, this one's obviously lined with Nada Surf cameos and references. Catch 'em all? If you want a Lucky MP3, you should see "These Bones."

Lucky is out 2/5 on Barsuk. Then you can catch 'em live.

The 4/11 Nada Surf gig at Terminal 5 is a co-headlining show with the original reunited Superdrag lineup! A night of power-pop goodness!

Just a great great song. The album is pretty damn good. Not their best, but then again "Let Go" is pretty hard to top.
Glad I got my tix already for the Terminal 5 show. I was too late pulling the trigger on the Williamsburg show, and it sold out. They are great live, and getting to see Superdrag with them is a great bonus.

A few years ago when I was living in Boston people use to see big Pete riding his fixed-gear around, so I guess this video isn't a big leap.

Superdrag rules hard. A Nada Surf/Superdrag show would have given me a woodrow 6-7 years ago.

Um, what references are we looking for exactly, apart from the band member cameos?

Thanks for paying an already successful actor the money to pose as a messenger in NYC. I'm sure there aren't any messengers out there who could do the shoot and use the money. Once again we watch as pop culture takes a big bite out of our community and contributes nothing in return. How about donating 1% of the net sales of this single to the Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund? Help someone else while you help yourselves.

Hey, if they found an actual messenger to do the shoot we'd miss out on those hilarious moments like the one at 1:10 where said actor/messenger goes slamming into a parking meter while riding on the sidewalk... because he is unable to effectively control his speed. Funny.

Regardless of the shoot and actor choice I believe that the creator of this video should re-edit the short clip and on the last frames insert these words.
"The Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund is a 501c3 non profit charity that provides emergency compensation to bicycle messengers around the world who are hurt on the job. " Please donate and this is tax deductable. www.bicyclemessenger.org

So lame. Fixed wheels and bike messengers are so 2005.

Older Pete still looks like a cool nice good guy...forget those other comments...Pete is SICK 4 ever in my opinion.
