New Videohippos Video - "Narwhalz"

If you're sporting "video" in your band name, chances are you're gonna drop a couple few o' those bad boys. Baltimorean Band To Watch Videohippos are known for kinetic live shows 'n' bright-ass outfits, so what better way to step out in vid form than with a Centipede title sequence, a pink wizard outfit and yellow sports gear, wavy-gravy bubbles, day-glo animals (fish, melodic birds, monkeys, tigers, some sloth-y thing), and -- best of all -- Jim Triplett (guitar/vocals/keys) smiling like a kid on Christmas morn? Right, there is no better way. Grab a bowl of Fruit Loops and take a peek at joyous Nintendo-tenderizing, Narwhals-guesting, Meredith Moore-directed "Narwhalz."

We can't stop listening to Unbeast The Leash and Videohippos' hyberbeat hardcore keyboard pop. If you still haven't had a chance to check out the Wham City duo, grab this track...

Videohippos - "Toothsub" (MP3)

... and re-read their BTW for another cut. More goodness at MySpace.

Unbeast The Leash is out now via Monitor on CD, via Wildfire Wildfire on vinyl.

Band To Watch: Hospital Ships

As we pass saturation point for press coverage of Montreal, Portland, Brooklyn and et cetera, it seems Lawrence, Kansas is poised for its coming turn in the music media trend piece carousel. At least from what we're hearing; this marks...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
