Ronnie James Dio Gets P.O.'d

Won't surprise you to know we've never done a Dio post, but at long last that glorious day has come; welcome to the tag field, Ronnie James. Nice-guy Heaven And Hell vocalist Dio was caught on video dissing ex-Dio/current Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell. Signing autographs after Heaven And Hell's Radio City Show in March, the ex-Sabbath crooner says he hopes Campbell "fucking dies." Wow, belt it out Ronnie! (via Blabbermouth)

Unsure why this took so long to surface, but it is pretty amusing. One question: What does Def Leppard have to do with diarrhea? Thought it was sugar they were pouring on us.

I'll be frank. I am glad Vivian Campbell was fired from Dio. There are many guitarist out there who are much better than Campbell in terms of both playing and composition . Craig Goldy is one of them. I have been listening to Dio for the better part of 20 years and I can tell you for a fact that Goldy is a better musician than Campbell. I came to this conclusion after years of listening to both players carefully.

If Campbell had his head screwed on straight he would have realized that working with Dio was the opportunity of a lifetime that could have elevated him towards a legendary status. However, Campbell took the low road with Def Leppard, a pop-rock band that does nothing but tour on their past releases.

Does anybody care if Def Leppard still fills large venues? I doubt it. Their music is sub-par and the people who attend their shows are clueless as to what heavy metal is really about. Dio has never wavered from his strong belief in metal and it shows with each of his releases. Just listen to Magica, Killing the Dragon or Master of the Moon. All of these are good solid metal albums.

So Campbell bad mouthing Dio does nothing but further tarnish his own reputation. If he spent more time working on his guitar playing instead of running his mouth maybe he would get somewhere, but I doubt it. He has plenty of time to run his mouth because Phil Collen is playing most of the Def Leppard lead parts. Maybe Campbell should just retire and take up the bongos or basket weaving.
