Had a feeling they’d be over and done with as soon as Frusciante left the building. Definitely not the same band without his guitar tone. This reminds me of when Weezer put out “Make Believe.” Lots of whoa-oh’s and hey-now’s and cheesed up BS. It was a good run, RHCP.

“Down in the Valley” by Head and the Heart is also a possible dark horse

OK, it needs to be acknowledged that Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” was the summer song in 2006, definitely NOT Nelly Furtado.

You could easily go with Black Keys “Tighten Up” or LCD’s “Drunk Girls” for summer 2010, too.

2011? I nominate Black Lips “Go Out And Get It.”

The Chili Peppers also played unopposed in 2006 if I remember correctly.

4 in 5 years isn’t good enough now?

I haven’t spent as much time on a single band’s web site since “In Rainbows” crashed Radiohead’s site. The album is really, really, really good.

There’s also a full stream of their show in Milwaukee on the site. I may never leave.

Milwaukee

Insanity. Pearl Jam hasn’t had a decent album since Yield, and that wasn’t even that good. Neither was Vitalogy. Have there ever been any bands that haven’t released anything good for moire than 10 years that have gotten more of a critical free pass than Pearl Jam?

The headliners are nowhere close to last year (Radiohead/Take Care Of Yourself Against The Machine/Kanye), but shit, LOU MOTHERFUCKING REED is playing! He’s one of the 5 best artists of the last 50 years!!! Plus AC, Fleet Foxes, TVOTR, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Cold War Kids, Silversun Pickups, Band of Horses, Santigold, Heartless Bastards, Gaslight Anthem, Neko Case, STS9, Los Campesinos! and Atmosphere? I’m in. So-so headliners but the deepest lineup yet.

Not as long as Pitchfork exists. God damn, I fucking hate Pitchfork.

Badass.

I really, really enjoyed this performance. Completely unique take on the song (especially for a TV performance) and it was good to see Meg smiling on camera again.

Buuuuuut I kinda wanted them to break everything on set like Conan had been doing all week. Just play something nuts like “Let’s Build A Home” or “Black Math” and snap on a 9 minute solo and then break the whole set Cobain-style. If only.

Yeah, Fever To Tell is definitely better and Show Your Bones is probably better, but this is going to be really big, right? This album is catchy as hell.

Whatever, I still think Karen O should be deepthroating microphones like back in the “Art Star” days. That first EP is fucking incredible.

Which is exactly what all of these other big names SHOULD be doing!

Kanye?

0Posted on Feb 24th, 2009 | re: Robert Smith Says Radiohead Model Is "An Idiot Plan" (125 comments)

This is so fucking annoying how many of these money-hungry big name artists have no interest in progress. Robert Smith can now add his name to the list of big name artists who have either ignored or shit on Radiohead’s brilliant model along with Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor, Oasis, Metallica, the Killers, Coldplay and major label whores U2. Sickening.

“In Rainbows” was one of the biggest albums of the decade! It made them infinitely more popular! They made a shitload of money! They sold out their entire tour! How is nobody seeing the connection here?

When did the music industry get more conservative than the goddamn Bush administration?

You know who I bet is really pissed about this indie-approved Springsteen resurgence? Brandon Flowers. Maybe if “Sam’s Town” comes out in ’09 instead of ’06 critics don’t crucify it. I hope that doesn’t mean we’ll all be debating whether we’re human or dancer in 3 years.

Good timing for Trent to take a break. He was in serious danger of turning into Billy Corgan 2.0. Nobody wants that.
