Word. Jai Paul may not get the most popular nods. But if there was one artist whose music from this “fad” will “stand the test of time”, for me it’s Jai Paul.
I relate 100% on this. While I was somewhat familiar with Modest Mouse before the “Float On” vid release (thanks, kewler middle school friends), the stylistic similarities and utter ubiquity of the “Float On” and “Take Me Out” videos led me to confuse the two bands, which is hilarious in retrospect. But summer ’04 memories are stitched with these two tracks.

I was listening to rapper Geo/Prometheus Brown of Blue Scholars describe the show to KEXP tonight, he said it was “the visual equivalent to Yeezus” aka “epic minimal”. Thought that seemed fitting, plus a stark contrast to the last, maximalist tour.

Just did a podcast with Ryder & Alina, yakked about their similarities to & thoughts on Dirty Projectors, Haim, Brainstorm, Chairlift and some others. I dig the staccato, intelligent vibe they’ve got goin on, but it’s still got grooves too.
