The panning comments I've read about this album are bizarre to me too. It's possibly in my personal top 10 for this year.

Looking forward to I Will Be. Was tempted to vote for Dum Dum Girls as Best New Act in the Gummy Awards but I felt like I hadn't heard enough to commit to that. Excited to hear more Pearl Harbor in the new year too.

Aww! The Olds like to complain that the art of letter writing is lost, and now I'm wondering if they have a point.

If hip-hop has taught us anything, it's that comebacks are best when done via music. Prior to all of this, the only time I'd ever read the name Harry Partch was in relation to The Stooges. Iggy Pop listened to Partch while recording Raw Power. Useless fun fact!

Damn, I want to see this, too. There's no US or UK equivalent to Gainsbourg. Among the things I hope to see in this film are how he tricked France Gall into singing dirty songs, how his song submission for the Eurovision Song Contest was rejected by France but later won for Luxembourg and his duet with Charlotte about incest.

Between this song and 'Love Goon' I'm becoming more and more drawn to this band. Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear I hear a bit of the Bulgarian Women's Choir in this.

The surprise look-alikes are really fun, but at the same time I shake the feeling that this is the music video equivalent to a Family Guy episode.

The bass line in this song reminds me a lot of Silver Apples' "Program". It's less noticeable in this clip than it is on the album. Embryonic is superb though. I'm really tempted to splurge for that furry packaging.

I'm still holding out for a 'squirrel' revival. At first I thought this was just an elaborate and hilarious way to promote Freelance Whales (a band I was already sold on), but I'll definitely check out a few other names on this list.

I liked that. Reminds me of that thing Blender used to do where they gave a band some money and got photos of them spending it. The most memorable involved The Flaming Lips, a kiddie pool, some strippers and Pepto Bismol.

I laughed when I saw how they made Iggy's lego self look like he has love handles. If they make Flight of the Conchords lego people, I'm in.

I woke up angry this morning but after hearing this lovely song, I feel better.

Not really liking the artwork, although the "Part of Mary-Louise Parker's Face" photo made them a lot more interesting being blurred in the background.

Wish she had toned down the noise on this song, but I'm anxious to hear Blissed Out anyway.

"Like a Diamond" and "The Same." have really grown on me. Looking forward to Idol Omens.

Fencing masks are creepy. Especially when the guy wearing it is standing still and up close like he's waiting for me to make the first move.

If it gets some younger kids to explore a lot of those artists, then it can't be all bad.

Peculiar. I love both groups and want to love this but it sounds a bit messy. Maybe after a few more listens. Still Night, Still Light is excellent though and I wouldn't mind hearing more remixes off of it.

I'm bored with the Flaming Fire Feud. If they started trash talking each others' music, it might be interesting, but they respect each other as musicians, so who cares if one doesn't like the other as a person? Most of the music I like is made by total assholes anyway.

Also, my friend wants to know if that's Don Fagen. I have no idea what anyone in Steely Dan actually looks like to know one way or the other.

September 3, 2009 on New Panther Video – “Birds That Move”
Between the two songs I've heard so far, I'm sold on getting Entropy. On a side note, the girls in this video shamefully reminded me of seeing Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love video as a very young and ignorant child. Not noticing the women weren't even playing those guitars, I thought it was so cool that Palmer had glamor girls for his back-up band.

I disagree that the song is indiscernible from the original. Anyone who's heard 'Seven Wonders' would have recognized the melody instantly, but I admire how the song has been reinvented and I agree that it's an excellent video.

Best heard as a Crookers track, because Fever Ray fans will be in for a rude awakening. And what is that weird sound? Is that a Moog? I hope so. Ample opportunities for Walter/Wendy Carlos and Dick Hyman jokes in the future.
