Peculiar. I love both groups and want to love this but it sounds a bit messy. Maybe after a few more listens. Still Night, Still Light is excellent though and I wouldn't mind hearing more remixes off of it.
I'm bored with the Flaming Fire Feud. If they started trash talking each others' music, it might be interesting, but they respect each other as musicians, so who cares if one doesn't like the other as a person? Most of the music I like is made by total assholes anyway.
Excellent song and video. Would love to know what the casting call for old ladies was like.
Bizarre. I think I remember seeing this photo in Flickr Explore. Nice to know the full story behind it.
Also, my friend wants to know if that's Don Fagen. I have no idea what anyone in Steely Dan actually looks like to know one way or the other.
Between the two songs I've heard so far, I'm sold on getting Entropy. On a side note, the girls in this video shamefully reminded me of seeing Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love video as a very young and ignorant child. Not noticing the women weren't even playing those guitars, I thought it was so cool that Palmer had glamor girls for his back-up band.
I disagree that the song is indiscernible from the original. Anyone who's heard 'Seven Wonders' would have recognized the melody instantly, but I admire how the song has been reinvented and I agree that it's an excellent video.
I've been crazy about everything I've heard by Washed Out so far. Can't wait for the new stuff.
Best heard as a Crookers track, because Fever Ray fans will be in for a rude awakening. And what is that weird sound? Is that a Moog? I hope so. Ample opportunities for Walter/Wendy Carlos and Dick Hyman jokes in the future.
Yeah, the flatulent bass isn't helping either. But it's close enough to being great to make me want to hear the rest of the album.
"B.O.B." is hardly obscure. It's in the top slot because it's a great song that alludes to the most significant event this decade.
I was surprised that Kayne West's "Flashing Lights" (#52) managed to beat out "New Slang" (#62) and even Arcade Fire's "Rebellion (Lies)" (#69). But I don't have the energy to be mad at lists anymore. You could even say I'm listless.
Yeah, I'm liking this. I love how he culls a lot of 80s stuff. It's probably a cliche to call anything 'summery' at this point, but that's exactly what it is. Endless summer, everybody!
Bubble-blowing guitar!!!
I don't hear it as a revisitation of their past myself. They were never this somber or clear in the noisy, irreverent says of 'Shine On, Sweet Jesus'. One of the many things I love about the FLips is how they began as an experimental act and over the years have toned themselves down into something that's far more coherent but still very unique. While other bands peter out as they age, the FLips keep getting better.
Trying to think of a Damo Suzuki Network joke ... wait, it'll come to me ... nah, fuck it. Excellent track though. Can't wait to hear more.
I'll take Kate Earl ads over Amanda Blank ads any day
I like Brandon's posts too. So much that I even learned how to spell his name. I've been ready to love this band after reading the "sounds like Kate Bush meeting Gary Numan at the bottom of a bong" description of their SXSW performances, but I've never been able to hear either of those artists in any of their songs. It's nice enough though.
Sounds like they're toning down the noise, which is great because (in spite of it being trendy to piss on Nathan) they're interesting enough to not have to rely on something so gimmicky. I was actually able to hear Cool Jumper through my shitty car speakers unlike their entire first album, which came out as a wall of static. Looking forward to the new stuff.
